A Great Run!
Sunday, June 14, 2015 · Mike Davis
Good morning! I actually just got in from an all night shift out at the base and I am going to chat before I hit the pillow. Definitely a different way to do my weekend duty but now that I’m done I can say that it wasn’t too bad. I am so fortunate to have the opportunities that I sometimes bemoan. Yesterday brought to an end my last Runners Alley training group as our last beginner 10K runner crossed the finish line. I guess we should never say never but with life moving in the direction it is moving it is pretty safe to believe that yesterday’s Market Square 10K race was my last Runners Alley group. Yes it is kind of sad and I am so grateful for having been given such a wonderful opportunity that has led to amazing things for me. As I stood on the corner of Woodbury Ave yesterday watching all the runners pass by I thought about how many of them I have been blessed to have worked with over the past 5 years. The fact that so many are still running means so much to me because it meant that my focus of keeping running fun is at the core, they will run for many years. No Finish Line Running was founded out of my time with these runners and my ideals and knowledge continuously evolved with each new group. Always at the core was the idea that if I could help people to understand that running is so much more than a finish line they would continue running for reasons far greater than the race we would train them for. With each passing shout out from the many runners without a doubt I was truly honored by the volume of past and current runners I have worked with. Another wonderful part of yesterday’s Market Square was having my daughter Jennifer (Davis) Miller by my side as we made our way around the Portsmouth. Jennifer helped me this year with this group and she has definitely grown as a runner and as a coach. Getting her coaching certification a couple years ago Jennifer espouses everything NFLR represents and combine that with her passion for helping people she makes the perfect coach. I have no doubt that Runners Alley Jeanine Sylvester will try to pull Jennifer into future Runner’s Alley training groups and that Jennifer could carry pick-up where I left off very easy. However Jennifer is a key member of the NFLR team and with already limited time available I’m not sure she has the bandwidth but you never know. As much as I will miss working with the many that come through the Runners Alley training groups, I am also excited at the opportunity to give my full attention to NFLR. With additional days freed up I can focus on some initiatives that we have been working. One such initiative is the Dover NFLR Advance 10K training we will be offering beginning July 7th and finishing with Saunders 10K August 20th. This 7 week advance group will focus on those that are able to run at least 4 miles fairly easily and are looking to get stronger for a 10K. The group will meet 6:30 Tuesday’s at a Dover track and 8:30 Saturday mornings at the No Finish Line Center. This will be a fun group that help current runners become stronger runners. If you are interested or have any questions contact us at info@nofinishlinerunning.co or call me at (603) 953-4992. This week we are pushing Pilates in the Park to 6pm in order to give people more time to get from work to Henry Law Park. So far people have loved being outside while doing Pilates so come on down this Thursday and join in! I started this chat before I hit the pillow but couldn’t focus so it is a few hours later. It looks beautiful out so maybe I will take Roy for a walk. Anyways have a great week and hope to see you around the roads! God Bless Mike
