A Little Wednesday morning Chat

Good morning! Is anyone else happy that we are almost half way through the week? Rain really does a job on my psyche and add to that a less than great couple nights of sleep and the countdown to Friday begins! Despite being totally exhausted I managed to get over to the NFLR Center yesterday after work and get a pretty decent workout of repeats. Not easy but, taken one at a time I managed to get through the entire workout. Having your own gym is a pretty wonderful thing as I can put on Pandora and listen to 80s music and no one but me to worry about. Sunday Doug and I met up at the Center for our long run of 2 hours. Prior to the run I was out and about and realized that I had not eaten since breakfast (it was 2pm) and the only choices I had were a Target hotdog or slice of pizza. I opted for the hotdog and a bag of popcorn. I know, I know, you can’t get a worse garbage than that! I told myself that something would be better than nothing. Two hours later Doug and I set out for our run and within 3 miles I had no energy and my hip hurt like heck! I hung in for another 3 miles before telling Doug to leave me to my misery. I managed to run 2 more miles and 8 overall but, it was not pretty whatsoever. There was a few other factors that probably did not help me but, my nourishment pretty much sunk me. It is not even funny that I am a running coach that preaches nutrition to our runners and yet I make such a poor decision. Okay so I came clean and now I promise not to ever repeat that! Dumb dumb! If you are looking for a nice run, come join us tonight at the “7th Settlement Brewery” in Dover. We are going to do some running on the “Reds Race for a better Community” 5 miler course. That means some challenging hills and some practice at smart running. “Reds” starts with a pretty good stretch of hill that most people kill their race on. Everyone loves the final downhill on Henry Law but, the early hills will really slow you down on miles 3 and 4, so practicing patients early is always a good thing with that course. Come run with us and then hang around after for a drink or even dinner at the “7th Settlement.” Lots of fun and great people to run with! We leave the “Settlement” at 6pm so come enjoy what looks to be a nice evening. We are really excited about our “Running 101 Beginner” seminar on April 23rd. We have various businesses participating such as Carrie Jose PT, Integrated Massage, and a local nutritionist and of course NFLR. Introducing new runners and maybe inexperienced runners to how best to run healthy is something we have wanted to do for a few years and now the time is right. Get the word out to those that you think might like to find the magic that we have all found through running. Time to get to the Center for some strength training. Definitely have not been as consistent with that as I need to be. Have a great Wednesday and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
