A New Week Begins

It’s Monday and that means I start all over again! My new work schedule has me off every other Monday and today I got to enjoy the day off. Having the day off enabled me to sleep a little later, take my time getting ready and actually enjoy a full cup of coffee. Coffee by the way is supposed to improve performance, but for me it mostly gets me going. I have taken to adding a sprinkle of cinnamon and at times some honey instead of my normal splenda. Today I didn’t have my normal protein shake, but instead a bowl of plain organic Greek yogurt. I get many yuck’s when I tell people that I eat the plain Greek yogurt. I can tell you this much; I don’t much care for it, but because it’s affective, I tolerate it.

Off for my run and because I took a left out of our cul-de-sac, I got to run slightly downhill to start. When I go right out of the cul-de-sac, it takes me a mile to get back the breath that I lose from the uphill start. I mostly go right. ? As I eased down the road I felt pretty good with no hangover from Saturday’s long run. The first mile was decent but for some reason I was struggling with my breathing. I continued on through downtown Dover which is the best part of my route and continued to struggle with my breathing. You would have thought that I was running a tempo run by the way I was breathing! I continued on and doubt whether I could keep going started to creep into my head. At the four mile mark I really wondered why I felt like I was at mile 15! I kept moving and mile 5 beeped and knowing that I was down to one and a half miles gave me a boost and there was no stopping now. The last mile was a bit of a battle, but I enjoyed it anyhow.

Not real sure why I struggled, but probably some carry over from Saturday’s 10 mile run. This is the first time I’ve run as many miles as I am for this race and I’m hoping that my body (and head) is up to it. Another concern today was some mild pain in my left hip (the bursitis hip), and I’m hoping that’s not going to come into play. Still feeling positive about things! Tomorrow I’m going to run 6.5 at lunch time, giving me a few extra hours of recovery time.

See you tomorrow!
