Good morning.
Been on a short hiatus for a couple weeks due to a lull in my motivation. Between Apple Harvest, Reach the Beach, moving some of our operations to Portsmouth and traveling back and forth from New Hampshire to North Carolina, it all kind of caught up to me. All good things (except maybe the traveling) but, a lot of activity that certainly challenges me in multiple ways. All the while I am trying to get my training back in order which has certainly suffered. I am certainly not unique in that life is any more challenging to me than most people.
Last weekend’s Apple Harvest 5K was a great success for NFLR as successfully produced our first event. The weather was challenging as well as the overall pace of the event. What I mean by the “pace of the event,” is how fast things happened from the moment we showed up at that morning until the finish line was rolled up. We certainly learned a lot about how quick things move and also how fast things can get away from us. Preparation and volunteers are the two key components to putting on a successful race and while we thought we were prepared and had a sufficient number of volunteers, I think we fell a little short in both. Not to say we did not produce a great race, because we did however, we all know we can do even better. As the race director I know if we as a team need to prepare better, it starts with me. Most definitely NFLR wants to be involved with the Dover Apple Harvest 5K again and I guarantee it will be even better! Learned a lot and had a lot of fun!
We are in our final 3 weeks of our “White Mountain Milers Half Marathon” training group and this group has been a huge success! Thanks to our group of coaches led by Doug Mackinnon, we have prepared our largest group yet for either 13.1 or to split the distance. Both are fantastic accomplishments and this group is ready right now! However, they still have 3 weeks to get even stronger. We also have a couple of runners that have utilized this training group to prepare for races closer to home around the Seacoast and that has certainly worked well. I cannot be more pleased with how this particular group has continued to grow in popularity.
We are also working on our winter plans for running because we do not stop running! Right now we are thinking that we will have a winter group that will run at least every Saturday morning. That discussion will soon and we will get the word out to the Seacoast soon. For now you can plan on there being a group run beginning the first Saturday in November, running from the Penny University Coffee House.
I have to get along to church. Have a great Sunday and an even better week!
God Bless!
Mike
