Back In My Shoes!

Back in my shoes today! Took a day off yesterday to hang out with my wife and that’s okay. Today, I got up early went to my gym (basement) and did a pretty hard session of arms, chest and even legs. Good job, lots of fun!

This afternoon I hooked up with Justin, Kathy and eventually a fourth person (Mike) joined us for our run. What a beautiful day, 50 degrees and sunny! Got to wear shorts which for some reason always makes me run faster. Honestly, I can’t really explain it, but the freedom I feel is liberating. That sounds kind of gay, I know. Anyhow, we started out and as I said, we were joined by another runner and that changed our dynamic some. I ran with Mike and Justin kind of stayed back with Kathy. I struggle with pacing when I’m running with another guy, especially when I’m not use to it. So of course we were going a bit too fast for Kathy, so we ended up pulling away. Around mile 2 Justin caught up with us as Kathy was doing her thing. We talked sports, running and some politics.

As we progressed our pace continued to be considerably faster than I think any of us would have liked, but after slowing down, we would pick it up again. I was okay with it, as surprisingly despite my morning session, I was feeling okay. As we approached our normal turnaround point, I asked Justin if he was going to stay with me as I wanted to run a total of 7 miles today. He was okay and Mike decided to stay with us, so we went all the way to the Wildlife Refuge. Between the beautiful day and the shorts, I felt pretty good, so 7 seemed easy enough. The only problem with this particular route is the run back consist of mostly uphill’s. So by the time we got to mile 6 was huffing and puffing, so the final mile was at the right pace. Slow!

All done and a great day! Not thinking much big picture right now and hopefully I can keep it that way. Pretty exciting stuff!

See you tomorrow!
