Catching up with NFLR

Good morning, Crazy week once again. Sunday a team of NFLR runners ran the Seacoast Cancer 5K Walk/Run in Dover then Kathy and I finished packing up my truck and hit the road for North Carolina. We left around 1pm Sunday, spent the night in Virginia and arrived in Pinehurst midday Monday. I enjoyed an evening at our house, got on a plane yesterday afternoon and back in New Hampshire last night. Crazy I know but, that is pretty much all I know! Backing up to Sunday I was really pleased that NFLR could be part of the Seacoast Cancer 5K Walk/Run in Dover. I cannot take any credit whatsoever as Deanna Swallow approached us with the idea of getting entering as a team and then my wife Kathy did everything to make it happen. All I did was show up and run. It was a great idea on Deanna’s part and a fantastic job by Kathy to pull together NFLR runners for involvement. The race itself was benefited by the perfect fall morning and an enthusiastic crowd of 1500 walkers and runners combined. Beyond NFLR being able to support a wonderful cause, the race winner was NFLR’s strength & conditioning trainer Jasmin Lepir. So cool to have the best strength & conditioning trainer in the area and also one of the best runners. Jasmin is quite interesting as he will tell you that he hates running but, he loves races. Well congratulations Jasmin! Jasmin has had a great racing season winning a couple races and finishing top 10 in many. Personally I thought I would be able to push myself a bit more after a weeklong virus but, by the midpoint I was tanked ending up around 26 minutes. Slow but, I was happy to be out there and able to run. The entire NFLR team all pushed through a tough hilly course that was as challenging as any 5K course I have run. Having to finish coming up the hill on Central Ave. to Wentworth Douglas was just plane mean but, as I watched each runner turn into the hospital I could see the gratification of conquering the final hill. Great event and I was so proud of No Finish Line Running for being there! This week we have welcomed rain back to the area and while it is much needed, it is not what most of us runners want this time of year. We want crisp fall days with the sun shining on the beautiful colored leaves as we glide along. Little over the top but rain definitely takes away from this short window of time that most everyone enjoys. That’s okay most runners easily change their focus as conditions warrant and are not deterred by most elements. Tonight is our Pub run from the 7th Settlement Brewery (6pm) and rain or shine most of us will be there. By all means come run 50 to 60 minutes with us! This week we also welcomed back Pilates to the Center. Now Tuesday nights at 6pm you can come to the Center and help yourself out in an amazing way! October the classes will be on me and come November it will still be a great deal at a $10 drop in. We have wrapped up our track workouts on Tuesdays as well and those were a great success that will return next year. Next Monday evening at the Center we will begin our “Beginners Only” training group at 6pm. If you know anyone that wants to start running this group will be for them. It will be Monday’s only but a training plan will be set for 3 days a week with an option to show up at other group NFLR runs. The 8 weeks training isn’t necessarily for a race but just to help beginners start to run. The investment is minimal ($40), so if you know of anyone that needs some help getting started pass on this info. Time to get ready for work. Have a great Wednesday and don’t let the rain bring you down! God Bless! Mike
