Tempo Run Day!
Today was a day that I was a bit worried about. Yesterday’s run was hell on me and even last night my legs felt horrible. I took a Motrin before bed last night and another this morning, and hoped for the best. My session today was to be one mile warm-up, five miles at 8:10 pace and a mile warm down. 8:10 is or was not ever much of a big deal for me, but my legs as of late feel like anything under 9 something is a big deal.
Today was the perfect run weather and that had my spirits lifted some. Knowing that I would be wearing shorts and minimal clothing gives me an energy boost. So at 3:15 I set out on my run not knowing what to expect? Right off I felt better than I did yesterday and my spirits picked up a great deal. I stayed controlled on my warm-up mile, giving my body a chance to loosen up and get into the run. When my Garmin beeped indicating it was time to kick it up, I easily took off. Feeling pretty good I had to slow myself down. As I said, my goal pace was 8:10, but my first mile was 7:55, but I was okay with that. Mile 2 was similar to my 1, I felt pretty good and kept my pace around 7:56 and that was pretty much the case for mile 3 and 4. Mile 5 was a lot more challenging, as I was tiring and things were getting a little tougher physically. I pushed up the toughest hill and had a quarter mile left to hang in there and I did. I finished mile 5 at 7:58 pace, so overall I averaged 7:56 for the 5 miles. A bit fast, but it’s not easy to stay exactly on pace and I pushed to make sure I at least stayed ahead of my goal.
Surprisingly I felt pretty good today and that lifted my confidence quite a bit. Not an easy workout, but I didn’t kill myself either. Tomorrow will be an easy 4 miles and I need that! For now, I’m thrilled as I move along!
See you tomorrow!
