Christmas Chat and More...

Good morning. Grab some coffee and pull up a stool. How was your Christmas? Kathy and I had a quiet but, very nice days. The plan was going out for a run, unwrap gifts, relax and then dinner with some friends. The run turned into a nice walk because of my groin but, everything else went according to plan. A very enjoyable walk around our friendly neighborhood with Roy got us started. Then we unwrapped our gifts and thankfully my dear wife showered me with some great business casual attire that will be beneficial as I transition from military uniform to some type of casual wear. I also got a running book from Jennifer for which the title alludes me at the moment but, it will be my next book to read after I finish some technical running books. It is always a joy to watch others unwrap gifts and also to receive gifts that others took the time to put thought in for me. After our tree was empty I moved to the kitchen and made pumpkin pancakes for our breakfast/lunch. Definitely a treat and also had a little No Finish Line Running relevance as the pancake mix was made by “Stonewall Kitchen,” who we work with as part of our cooperate training group program. The afternoon was mostly filled with relaxation though I did some strength training while Kathy went out for a short run. Christmas dinner was out at a very beautiful club with some friends and then we finished off our Christmas day watching the original “Miracle on 34th Street.” I am definitely a very traditional guy when it comes to some holidays and watching both “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Miracle on 34th Street” brings the warmth of the season to me. As I mentioned, my groin pull continues to be a little annoying. I was recovering quite well early last week as I was able to run for 60 minutes without any problems. However, on Wednesday when I did some repeats on the treadmill, I pushed a little too much and that proved to be a mistake. When I attempted to stretch before going out for a run with Kathy on Christmas day, I instantly knew that I needed more healing time. I am confident that it is not serious but, will be more nagging if I am not patient. Certain runs may be okay at various stages of the healing but, repeats are definitely not. I am obsessed with repeats but, will have to rein them in for a while. Also, will have to adjust my stretching while the groin heals so that I don’t antagonize it before I even get on the road. Early in 2015 I seemed to battle some injuries, with tearing my MCL being the most significant however, I have felt like the last part of the year has been great. I am looking forward to starting 2016 as healthy as possible and then getting my body a functionally strong as possible. I definitely have some personal goals for 16 that I will share later in the week but, they will require a strong body. Time to get along. I hope you have a great Sunday and thanks for sitting down to coffee with me! God Bless! Mike
