Coaching may be for you!

Good morning! Grab your cup of coffee and pull up a chair!

Down, but not out! As I recover from an apparent torn soleus muscle, I am still able to do some strength training. Yesterday in fact, I dusted off the Spartacus Workout and looked it over to see if it would work for my injury and what my functional goal is. I was not sure about the affect on my calf, but I figured I could modify it if needed. Functionally, it covers all of my goals of full body, so I went at it! Ended up being a great workout and did not require much attention to my calf. Between having an ACE certified personal trainer available to me personally (as well as NFLR) and my own training, I am fortunate to understand functional strength training and the value of various workouts. Spartacus is not necessarily a workout for runners, but I am not always looking for a running specific weight training workout. Right now, I am focusing on core and back muscles, as I want to improve my posture.

Speaking of posture, this morning I was up and doing my morning routine of yoga stretches, posture stretches and finished with the “Superman” stretch. I have done this each morning for the past 3 weeks, with the exception of 1 day. While this routine has yet to become a mindless habit, I am to the point where it is routine enough that I do not want to detour the momentum. Some mornings (like this morning), I think about all I have going on and consider pushing it to later, but I know what “later” often means to me, so I got it done now. The results of my daily routine may not be visible, but internally, I feel good about the stretching and am confident that it will help my posture.

Often, I am asked what does a personal running coach do for a runner? It is easy to understand why elite runners utilize personal coaches, as they help them with improving their running through training. However, 99 percent of runners (just about all of us), are “recreational” and the need for a personal running coach is often questioned. Most runners would like to keep it simple and inexpensive, buy decent shoes, clothes and run! While that sounds ideal, the results are not often as successful as we would like. Whether because of injuries, not improving, or just not enjoying their running, runners often stop running at some point. When I started NFLR, it was with the intent of continuously evolving our knowledge in order to help runners successfully run strong, healthy and have fun doing it. Our personal coaching has many resources that we utilize to help all levels of runners to improve every aspect of their running, and just as important we individualize every program to keep it truly “personal.” Like me for example, I cannot run currently, but using our training model, I can continue training and help myself in other facets of running without being on the road.

Our personal coaching is unique to many, in that we use science based training, while still maintaining a very personal program. Our methodology is based on what science has discovered, and our presentation is personal thanks to technology. Plans are designed for a particular individual based on goals, current running status and health considerations and then we utilize a unique online training plan and training log program that we created to keep it very personal. Every runner we have worked with, has absolutely loved our program and its structure. We most definitely find our unique training is set up for the best possible success.

Personal running coaches may not be for everyone, but if a lifetime of running is a goal, I would strongly consider reaching out for a free consultation, just to see if it might help with that goal!

Have a great Friday and hopefully a long weekend!

God Bless!
