Coffee and Chat Friday

Good morning. How great that it is Friday and a long weekend ahead! I am actually taking next week off and am headed to New Hampshire for a few days. Will be great to see family and friends! For now grab your coffee and let’s chat for a bit. This week has been exceptional for my running. I have runs of 30, 30 and 32 without the slightest feeling of stress in my calf. All of you that have dealt with injuries fully understand the awesome feeling that comes with running pain free after wondering if the pain would ever go away. I will continue to do the painstaking things that I have been doing and also maintain the patience that has gotten me this far. As great as it has been to run without any calf issues, it has certainly been challenging to run in 90 degree temperatures. In fact yesterday the real feel was 94 degrees when I started out for my run. One of the many benefits of running for time versus distance is that on challenging run days you can go as easy as need be and get the same benefits while protecting yourself physically. My pace yesterday was slower than Tuesday, yet I was able to run 2 more minutes. Physically is was challenging because of the humidity but minimizing the stress by not having to go a certain distance certainly eased the difficulty physically as well as mentally. Improving on the amount of time run versus the distance has so many benefits and are a staple of NFLR. After work today I will get in a long overdue Pilates session. While my calf is getting better I can certainly feel the effects of having not done Pilates. The arthritis in my hip definitely rears its ugly side as well as other areas. I certainly no better yet that is an area of my life I need to improve greatly. Like yesterday when I got home and put on my running gear despite not planning to run for a while; today I will put on Pilates attire and stay in it till I actually do it. It is always smart to get right into my workout clothes even if I am not going to workout immediately. Better chance of doing the workout. Short and sweet today. I hope you have a great 4th of July and a super weekend! Maybe I will see you in New Hampshire! God Bless and I’ll see you on the roads! Mike
