Coffee and Chat Friday

Good morning and “TGIF!” What a great week it has been! Multiple planning meetings every day about the KC-46 Pegasus air refueling aircraft that will a critical role in our nation’s security based in New Hampshire. I will be a couple years into my retirement by the time this state of the art jet comes off the Boeing line and fly’s its first mission. Hopefully some of my influence this week and over the next few months will have a positive impact on our ability to logistically support this new weapon system. The interesting and fun challenge is the fact that this will be the very first time in National Guard history that a guard unit has stood up a brand new weapon system. Typically the Air Force has long flown aircraft and then the Reserve’s and the Air National Guard are given previously flown ones. In this case 2 bases were awarded the new KC-46 Pegasus with one being an active duty unit and the other being 157 ARW, Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire. Pretty amazing accomplishment for us but one that comes with a lot of challenges and years of planning. While the pilots and maintenance folks get most the attention, Logistics has far more to prepare for and a lot less political clout when it comes to resources. Some have felt that it has been a frustrating process (at times it is), but this is an amazing part of our Guard history and it is great to be part of it! Sorry about getting off base there but while NFLR has been busy with running this week, my other career has dominated this week. Despite my week being consumed with meeting after meeting I have been super thrilled by all the happenings at NFLR. Monday and Wednesday night our corporate training program over in York with Stonewall Kitchen continued on, Tuesday our latest NFLR moved into week 2 at the track and Wednesday we did our weekly pub run for our spring/summer training group. Along with all of that we temporarily moved “Pilates in the Park” to Tuesday and that worked out fine and we will finish out the week tomorrow with both the spring/summer and Advanced 10K training groups running from the Center. If all of that wasn’t enough Kathy worked with a great young man at the Center yesterday on improving his strength and stability and tonight the Center will be busy with NFLR website stuff and client visits. All said we are doing exactly as I envisioned when NFLR moved from a solely running coaching business to a multi resource business. People of all levels have multiple resources to improve their running and have a lot of fun while doing it. Another great success at NFLR is our Monday and Wednesday strength and conditioning with Jasmin. His classes are now filling up and we may have to look at adding additional ones. Because his training so functional he limits the class size and people are really catching on the tremendous value and filling up the classes. If you are interested please contact us and we can certainly find a way to fit you in. Last Saturday Lew and Meghan made the trek up to Portland to attend the Road Runners Club of America running coach certification course. Now all they have to do is take the test and they will both be RRCA certified running coaches. This will give NFLR 5 certified RRCA running coaches and that will be more than any single running business anywhere. I am so proud of this team at NFLR and being able to provide technical and experienced coaching along with Pilates, strength & conditioning as well as running form analysis so awesome. People walk in our door wondering what all we do and it doesn’t take long to blow them away with the many resources that will make a difference in their running. In little over a week a couple of our NFLR training groups will be in York for the York Days 5K race. I have spoken in the past about my fondness for this particular race and now I am really excited that a bunch of the participants will be wearing NFLR shirts. If you are looking for a great race to run the York Days 5K has a great course and is lots of fun. I enjoy running along Long Sands Beach particularly and I also like that I often see many friends from the race community. One week from Sunday! Time to get along and go for a run. Thanks for hanging with me and hope that you had a good as week as me! Enjoy your weekend! God Bless! Mike
