Coffee and Chat Friday

Friday, November 13, 2015 · Mike Davis

Good morning! I have my fresh brewed cup of coffee, grab yours and let’s chat! It is Friday! Under a month before I will be running the streets of Boston wearing nothing but a Speedo. The only solace I will get is that this event is a fund raiser, so being able to help young people while having to expose more of my body than I might like is an okay tradeoff. If you would consider a small donation I would truly appreciate it. The link to donate is: http://ssrunners.org/donate.asp. I guess I have to start my shopping for a Speedo soon. Who even sells those things this time a year? Tomorrow No Finish Line Running starts it “NFLR Winter Running Group.” I know, no one wants to hear the word “winter” used so soon but, it is coming! Many runners struggle with how to keep the momentum going after those last fall races and this running group is the perfect opportunity to stay motivated and have fun. Winter is challenging in so many ways for people as it is easy to add few extra pounds, hibernate inside or just battle with the treadmill. There was a time when I did all of those and just counted down the days to April. Not a great way to spend my winter for sure. When I decided that I would take winter head on, I truly felt like I gained some life that I had been trying to make disappear. Last winter NFLR started our first winter running group, starting in November and running all the way to April when we ran the Reds Shoe Barn 5 miler. This year’s group will once again be open for all levels and will be a fantastic opportunity for runners to enjoy group running, socialize and stay motivated. It can be challenging at times and often the idea of having the accountability of the group is the only thing that gets you out on those cold days. This group will meet Wednesday nights at the 7th Settlement Brewery at 6pm and Saturday mornings at the NFLR Center at 8:30. This will also be the first group that every runner will have their own online log that they can use to follow and more importantly log their runs. This log feature is a favorite for our individual runners as it keeps them accountable. With a team of NFLR coaches working with this group it will provide many benefits for all the runners. Wednesday nights is also an opportunity to socialize after if you so choose as many do like to hang around after. Saturday mornings there’s an easy walk to coffee for those that might like to do that (see below). Last week someone commented that the $80 fee is ridiculously low and not enough for the business. While we are in business, the thought behind keeping the fee low is that we want to encourage runners. Some come on down to the Center tomorrow and join us! More information can be found at: www.nofinishlinerunning.com or email me us at info@nofinishlinerunning.com. A couple months ago a new owner took over the coffee shop in the plaza the NFLR Center is located. Penny University opened its doors back in the late summer and instantly became a favorite of mine and many others that enjoy great coffee, lattes and sandwiches. Recently they even added soups as well for those that wanted something homemade for lunch. Obviously I am a coffee guy and am always looking for places that offer great coffee and a place to enjoy it. This place is exactly that and then some! The atmosphere is amazing and the coffee and lattes are the best found on the seacoast. They even open 3 nights a week and offer local music as well. No, I am not getting any free coffee for plugging Penny U, I just truly love this place and am extremely pleased to have it in the same plaza as the NFLR Center. Check it out! Time to head out. Have a fantastic Friday and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
