Coffee and Quick Chat

Good morning! This morning I was up and out the door early to head off to the base and I had to actually check the time to make sure I did not sleep late. Nope, it was 6am and yet it was light enough that it seemed like 8am. Guess it must be time to spring ahead! The week ahead looks to be wonderfully warm here in the northeast and then next weekend we spring forward. Life is good for the running world! Longer daylight is always a good thing for runners as it seems to provide a mental lift. Maybe it is only I but, I seem get a better vibe from our runners when we have more daylight to run in. Nevertheless, spring is nearer, longer days are coming and more warmer days are ahead than colder ones; so life is good! Next week marks the beginning of the Dover Series with the “Run Before You Crawl” 5K. Pretty much after that race there will be races all over the Seacoast every weekend for the next 7 months or so. I am at the point in my life where I pick races purely on the basis of enjoyment. It is so much more fun to run an event when it is meaningful whether because of location, scenic or for a particular cause. There was a time when it was more about racing and that was okay but, while I am not out to pasture yet, I have certainly come to enjoy the event more than the race. If I were to be totally honest, I would probably admit if my schedule and body would allow I would still be trying to “PR” or compete in my age bracket but, neither allows for that. Also my ego has somewhat succumbed to the reality of what healthy running is and thankfully. Maybe when I am 70 I will have one great run left in me that will get me to the top of the age bracket! This week is my week to get back in gear with my running. I am pretty sure I have not run since line 10 days ago and let’s not even talk about strength training! I did do some push-ups one night but, that has been the extent of it. My plan is 4 good runs this week and 2 days of strength training. I have had lots of excuses and not all are legitimate. Yesterday my wife text me that she ran 10.5 miles and I could not be more impressed or proud of her drive to overcome her allergies. Just prior to her run we spoke on the phone and she sounded absolutely terrible in fact, I would have bet that she would get about one mile and her conditions would stop her. That did not happen and she showed how strong she is. Definitely inspiring to me. Time to get going. Have a great week and take advantage of the weather! See you on the road. God Bless! Mike
