Coffee, Chat and Quick Intervals

Good morning! Happy Friday! We are almost there runners, longer days, warmer weather and safer roads! As for today it is Friday so that means coffee, chat and Quick Intervals. Let’s roll! This past Tuesday night just before our NFLR group run I through a couple mint Icebreakers in my month to insure that my breath was minty fresh. Fast forward to about a half mile into our run with a pretty chilling wind blowing in our faces that little flappy thing in the back of my throat technically called the uvula was burning like heck! Oh my gosh it was crazy and it persisted for near 2 miles. Honestly I was about ready to turn around and go back the 7th Settlement around mile one. Later over our post run dinner we were joined by Art and his wife Beth who happens to also be my primary care physician and I brought up this freaky episode and Doctor Remillong did in fact tell me I had burnt my uvula. Well there was a lesson learned and something the rest of y’all should keep in mind! Today I have to get signed up for the “Reds For A Better Community” 5 mile road race. Hopefully our all the NFLR Winter training group will be running this great local race. Speaking of training groups No Finish Line Running is finalizing our spring/summer training groups here in Dover. This group will be unique on multiple fronts as we will offer “zero to 3.1” as well as intermediate and advance runners an opportunity to meet the same time and prepare for multiple 5Ks as well as a 10K. The basic skinny is that we will meet Wednesday nights at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 8:30 and break out into a couple of groups. Should be lots of fun and a great way to enjoy the running season! Next week the details will be released. Been a great week so far for the old coach. Ran 3 times, strength trained once and got a great Pilates session in as well. If I can get in a minimum of 5 workouts a week I will be very pleased with myself, but the goal is six so that is possible with today and tomorrow left yet. Pilate’s was amazing Wednesday morning at the Center and there were actually moments that I felt like I was improving ever so slightly. That is kind of a cool feeling and more importantly my arthritic hips have been feeling great when running. Thank you Erica! I am so ready to start running in shorts and wear flip flops. No I am not trading my running shoes for flip flops, I pretty much wear flip flops as soon as the messy cold is gone and when I run I absolutely hate wearing running pants. Two separate issues but both make a big difference between the ears to me. Lots of races coming in the near future so time to get out there and get ready. Very important, don’t just jump back into running without proper preparation and training. The best way to enjoy the running season is to train properly. Consider the NFLR training group or if in the Portsmouth area join one of the many Runners Alley groups. I will once again be leading the 10K training groups along with my daughter Jennifer Miller. Lots of opportunities for training. Time to finish up and get along. Don’t forget to “Spring Ahead” this weekend and enjoy the extra daylight after work! Have a great day and an even better weekend.
