Coffee & Chat Friday: Thankful for the opportunities

Good morning!
I hope you are enjoying an awesome week, I definitely am. Each day brings new blessings that I am grateful for. I have been in New Hampshire since June for not the best reason, but the time here has given me wonderful opportunities to enjoy things I value most. I am unsure of the future in many ways, but I am positive that it will be amazing! Sometimes we lose sight of what is really important, and our plans become self-centered, but thankfully we are afforded an opportunity to let something far greater “steal our show.” (A Toby Mac song)
I am excited that I am nearly half way to being able to lace up my running shoes and begin putting mileage on them. It is a bummer to not be out there right now but knowing my patience will be rewarded has kept me positive. Much like my opening thought, I have my mind on the bigger picture and my goal to run healthy. My calves have been so problematic for so long now, I am willing to trade time for an actual solution. For now, I am doing exactly what the doctor directed me and come the end of October, I have full confidence I will be back on the road and in my running shoes! My goal is to run in a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot somewhere, even if I am still walk/running at that point.
Recently I took on a par-time job working at the Manchester YMCA as a personal trainer, as well as a Wellness coach. This has been an awesome opportunity for me to continue getting experience in the stability & mobility area. The current list of people I am training range from a young woman with downs syndrome to a female runner who realized she needs to be better functionally strong. The young woman that has downs syndrome has been a bit of a challenge because I have had no experience with her circumstances. My wife worked with some autistic individuals and would often share her challenges, and that has helped some. It has been challenging, but Betsy is a great kid and has allowed me to try different things to figure out what will work best. I honestly question who is getting more out of the training, me or Betsy? She is a fun to work with, but I do have to push her to challenge herself.
As I said one of my other personal training clients is a runner and of course, that is really awesome. Vylett (like Violet) has a running coach, so my only focus is to help her get functionally stronger. This is of course a unique circumstance for me, as normally I control all aspects of an individuals training, but based on her running success, I would say that her running coach is doing a great job with her running. In short time, we have connected well and we both can see how badly she needs stability training. Vylett will be running the New York City marathon and that is exciting!
Betsy & Vylett are just 2 of 8 people that I am working with as far as personal training, and I am super thrilled to gain experience with the various challenges each unique individual pose.
This weekend I am excited to be off to a men’s retreat with some great people. So, no Coffee & Chat this Sunday. Maybe I will do a special edition early next week, we will see what happens.
Have a great finish to your week and an even better weekend!
God Bless Y’all!
Mike
