Friday Coffee and Chat

Good morning and happy Friday! Great news this week for No Finish Line Running! The Dover Chamber of Commerce selected us to manage and direct the 2016 “Apple Harvest 5K” We have pondered this huge undertaken in the past and were reluctant because of the enormity of putting on a race but, now that we have a sizable team of great people, we felt the timing was right. So October 1st plan to come run a wonderful New England 5K in Dover. The course is fantastic and it is the perfect background for enjoyment. This race has long been one of my favorites because of the New England feel to it and now “NFLR” is going to raise it to another level! Not a great week of running for the coach. Kathy and I did run on Wednesday but that has been it so far this week. Despite being plus 90 degrees we both enjoyed a great run. I continue to gain more confidence that my calf injury is behind me and now I have to focus on building up my distance. I really wanted to get to 120 minutes of running by Reach the Beach however now my goal is 90 minutes. 120 would risk injury with RTB less than 2 months away, so I will focus on a strong 90 minutes. Even that amount of will be a challenge and may require some run/walking. There was a day when I would not have ever considered run/walking but I am much wiser now and will do whatever logic dictates. Running in extremely hot weather dictates being resourceful and not letting my ego dictate. With tomorrow’s temperature rising to nearly 100 degrees, we will have to get out early and deal with the humidity. Running 60 minutes will be a challenge but an important milestone for me right now. How I go about it will determine my success. Our NFLR Spring/Summer training group is finishing up their training for the “603 10K” that will be next weekend in Dover. This group has had a great time, led by Coach Doug Mackinnon. The past few Wednesday’s they have been running part of the course and they tell me that it has been brutal between the heat and the hills. Dover certainly provides runners ample hill training and some fun but challenging running. Doug has done a super job preparing the group and they will be more than ready to conquer a tough course. Doug has also been conducting an NFLR coach’s track workout on Tuesday nights at the Dover High School track that is also open to anyone for a $5.00 drop in. It is very challenging for the coach’s to get their training in while focusing on training groups, so this is a great for them and also gives others a chance to get in a great workout! 6pm Tuesday nights! As I mentioned last week, August 6th NFLR will begin our “Destination Race” training group. This group is perfect for multiple goals as you can either train for a 10K or half marathon distance. The event will be in North Conway and offer a half marathon or half marathon relay. We have once again negotiated a great price at the Hampton Inn, so we will go up on Saturday, meet for dinner and then run the “White Mountain Milers Half Marathon/ Relay” Sunday morning. Last year we had so much fun and this year will be even better! Sign up at wwww.nofinishlinerunning.com now! Time to say goodbye. Have a great Friday and an even better weekend! God Bless! Mike
