Friday Coffee and Chat

Good morning! How great that it is Friday and most of us get to enjoy a 3 day weekend! Okay I am of course a military guy so Memorial Day does mean a lot to me and on Monday I will most definitely honor those that have given their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. I am so grateful for the many that have given the ultimate in defense of our country and I have been blessed to have served with a few as well. My God keep you and give comfort to the loved ones you left behind. Thank you. Good news, last night I ran around 2.5 miles and my knee did okay. Not perfect but okay. Out with my Runners Alley 10K training group for a 50 minute run I felt like I may have been able to go a little further but instead turn around at the 13 minute mark and was able to run back to the store without much pain. This is really the best I have felt in a while and definitely better than I did this past Tuesday night for sure. This injury has really been difficult to deal with but thankfully I have managed to be with my training groups for the most part and hopefully I’ll be able to hang with them for a little longer next week. I am trying to be smart with the recovery and that is really difficult when the weather is almost perfect and runners are everywhere! I will continue to hold back and hopefully move in the right direction. Speaking of dealing with recovering, last night I talked with local running star Andrew Hubner who is recovering from surgery that has derailed his running greatly. Andrew as many know qualified for the Olympic trials last year, running a 2:17 marathon, but shortly after he battled what eventually was diagnosed as a sports hernia. The road back to complete recovery is slow and challenging to Andrew but thankfully his perspective is one of being totally content with just being out on the road for even 25 minutes at a time. As we talked I was pleased that Andrew talked of the pure joy of just being able to run and the contentment he enjoys at this point. I have no doubt and he as well that there will be a time when the competitiveness comes out and hopefully that will align itself with his complete recovery. Andrew is a super talented runner and an even better person and I will be rooting for him when the time is right. This weekend also marks the 17th running for the Redhook/ Runners Alley 5K out at the Pease International Tradeport. The race is sold out so the only way to get a bib is by registering for the 100 Club. If I were a runner that wanted to (or could) run this race I would have no problem paying the fee to get in through the 100 Club as it goes toward a great charity in Kremple’s Center. In fact No Finish Line Running did a fund raiser a couple years ago for the Kremple’s Center and I was quite proud of though it was not the magnitude of what this race raises. I will be at my normal station just before mile 2 so if you see me give me a shout out! Working as a volunteer for this race has become an annual event and I am honored to be a part of it. Looks like a great day to run! Time to get out to the track and meet a client. Hope you have a great Friday and a super weekend. Hopefully I will chat with you on Sunday! God Bless! Mike
