Friday Quick Intervals

Good morning and happy Friday! Been a warp speed week for me as I prepare for a crazy August. I hit the road Monday for Seattle back for a few weeks and then off to vacation in El Salvador! Just kidding, not really a vacation. Between all of that we have 3 groups in the final stretch for training for Saunders and the destination half marathon training group starting August 6th. Yes I know, crazy schedule as ever but don’t worry I will find time for No Finish Line Running. I dare to say after August things will settle down however it seems I keep thinking that way and it doesn’t happen. That’s okay I am enjoying the business and am able to make it all work. Wednesday night was hot all heck! Our pub run was a short 3 mile run with some nice hills mixed in thanks to my wife’s planning out our route. After the run a few of us made our way over to Castaways on the river and had dinner and drinks out on the deck. While Castaways can seem a little biker bar like, it is really a great place to enjoy decent food and sit out on the deck. After 9 it may start to get a bit louder, but Kathy and I really enjoy the deck and the food. We all had a great time enjoying the beautiful evening while of course talking about running. The saying is that runners talk about anything but running when running and when not running they talk about running! I would say that is very accurate. Yesterday I was up early and out on the road running. While I may have beat the high temps, the humidity was around 90 percent and that was pretty rough. Also it was my 3rd consecutive day of running and my legs were a little tired. Despite all the stuff I am complaining about, it was a nice run and I enjoyed the morning serenity. I ran 50 minutes and that was definitely my limit. When I follow our NFLR training methodology I am definitely far better off. Often it is easy to think I need mileage but staying with time based training is more efficient and minimizes my injury risk. Even though I ran consecutive days, after tomorrow’s group run I will have run an appropriate amount of total time. Tomorrow is to be 60 minutes and that should push me to a distance I haven’t run since before I tore my ACL. This morning I am going to the Center with Kathy and she is going to put me through a new strength training program that is designed for runners. Actually this program was designed by a sports doctor that is an avid runner and tri-athlete. We want to thoroughly experienced with the workout so that we may utilize at times for some of our runners. Having Jasmin available for strength & conditioning is a great resource, but after having studied this workout I would like to utilize it when it might be a better fit. Not an easy workout at all! Yesterday NFLR got some good props from local sports writer Rob Levey at the Portsmouth Herald. He reached out earlier in the week for some running tips and of course I was more than glad to help. Nice to get some press and fun to offer up some advice. http://www.seacoastonline.com/…/SPO…/150729015/101031/SPORTS Apparently next week Rob is going to take most of this same column along with some of the other stuff he asked me and the couple pictures that I supplied him with and put it in a news magazine called the Seacoast Scene. I guess this magazine is out all over the seacoast for free, so that should be pretty cool! NFLR exposure is always a plus and nice to have Rob’s support! Looks like some nice weather ahead with the humidity not so high and the temps a little more manageable. I am so impressed with all the NFLR training groups as everyone has been out there despite the extremely challenging temperatures. This past Tuesday night at our weekly track workout, the group was large and amazing! Each runner pushed through and followed the workout as designed. If you are looking for a great track workout join us at the Dover high school track on Tuesday’s at 6PM. Time to get moving and over to the Center. Have a great Friday and a super weekend! See you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
