Friday's Coffee and Quick Intervals

Friday, September 19, 2014 · Mike Davis

Good morning! Thankfully today is Friday and because it is Friday that means I do some quick intervals around the world of running and sometimes non-running. Grab your coffee, lace up your shoes and let's go! This time last Friday we were rolling to Cannon Mountain for the start to Reach the Beach (RTB) with a van of runners fairly unknown to each other. Thirty something hours later one of the best vans of people I have experienced RTB with was headed back to our cars in Dover. RTB is dominated by the challenging runs, but in reality it is really about the people and who you spend that 30 plus hours with makes a huge difference. Recovery from RTB has been slow for me. Having run 3 times this week everything feels much like I have after a marathon. Very tight! Tomorrow will be interesting as we run 80 minutes with our Portsmouth Runners Alley Half Marathon training group. While I was pleased with my running at RTB, I am more interested in the post RTB effects. NFLR kicked off a training group for the good folks at Stonewall Kitchen over in York Maine earlier this week. This is a cool opportunity to get involved with a local business that wants to promote healthy and wellness. We will meet at York high school which gives us easy access to running along Long Sands beach and how great is that! If you are looking for a 5K training group that is designed to either help you to get to a 5K or run stronger, come join this group. The group will run for the next 9 weeks on Monday's and Wednesdays and will do various runs to help accomplish whatever goal you might desire. Let me know if you are interested. Don't forget about our featured race that takes place this Sunday over in Kittery Maine. This race has many features that insures you will have a great time! Check out the home page for more details. Kathy and I are off to North Carolina for a short but much needed break on Sunday. We will be flying early Sunday and back late on Wednesday. We really enjoy our time there and this time is coming at the perfect time as I have been going like crazy as of late. Hopefully when we return I can get my schedule under control and organize myself a bit better. Doubt it! I will talk a lot more about it, but yesterday I was at the track early with one of my favorite people and I put her through a workout that would kill most people. She not only got through it, but she killed it! Lots to take from it and will write more in depth about it on Sunday. Nice job Sarah! Another new addition to NFLR clients this week and I am excited about this gentlemen. Mike is fairly new to running over the past year but he has a great passion for running already and he fits the NFLR mentality perfectly. Looking forward to working with Mike and seeing him develop as a runner. Things never slow down at NFLR! Time to move along! Thanks for coming along and sharing a cup of coffee with me. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! Mike
