Friday's Coffee, Chat and Quick Intervals

Good morning runners! A busy schedule has kept me from my "coffee and chat", but today is a great day (I am off). Grab a cup of coffee and lets roll! Great opportunity yesterday as I was invited to speak at an in orthopedic conference in Boston. I was the only non-orthopedic related speaker and it appeared they needed something off subject from what they had been listening to all day. My intro went something like this: "As a running coach my goal is to keep runners away from all of you!" That got a few laughs, and I really enjoyed the opportunity of discussing working with people and the great satisfaction that comes from helping people realize their goals. Fun to talk running! Another busy week at No Finish Line Running with the Runners Alley Seacoast half marathon training group, Stonewall Kitchen training group and multiple individual clients at the track in the wee hours of the morning. Through the Seacoast half things will remain busy and then things might slow down a bit. Strangely late fall and early winter tend to get busier with individuals more so than you might think. I guess people realize the idea of working with a professional running coach but wait until the race season has passed. We definitely pick up in our running gait analysis part of our business which makes sense as runners like using the winter to tune up their form. Lots going on at No Finish Line Running! Hopefully over the next couple weeks we will have an announcement on a winter running group. Taking a few minutes to organize our plan has been the hold up, but ideally the group will train for "The Half at the Hamptons" as well as offer runners in the Dover area a chance to run with a group. Look for an announcement next week. Though not open to the public, the "Pease Relay" is an event that many of you have heard me talk about quite a bit in the past. This race was my brain child some 6 plus years ago and in little over a week we will be running the 6th Annual Pease Relay race! The idea was to bring military members, their dependents and DOD employees out on a Sunday and run a relay race starting on Pease Air National Guard base and ending at the base. With the help of many fellow Guardsman we have established not only a race, but an event! The race runs through Newington Village over the old General Sullivan bridge and back. Beautiful course, great camaraderie and lots of fun. With over 150 participants each year, I am so very proud of what we have accomplished. Have not mentioned the Stonewall kitchen training group much, but thanks to my man Lew Ricker the small group we are working with is going great! Much like the Runners Alley Portsmouth training group that gets to enjoy running along New Castle, the Stonewall Kitchen group is lucky enough be able to run along York beach. We meet at the high school so we have access to the track and it is only minutes from Long Sands beach. The group is doing fantastic and much of the credit goes to Lew and the work he has put in. Looks like a great weekend along the coasts of New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts for running. We have our longest run to date with the Runners Alley half training group and it will also be my longest run this year. Kathy signed us up for us up for the White Mountain Milers Half Marathon on the 26th of this month so tomorrows run will be an important one for me both physically and mentally. Hard to believe but I haven't actually run a half marathon race in a few years. I have done the distance, but because of coaching I haven't had the chance to run a race. Kind of exciting to be running a half marathon race again! Thankfully the weather has been awesome and tomorrow will be another one of those perfect New England days!. Time to get along, but it was great to catch up a little this morning. The running world doesn't slow down much! Have a great day and a super weekend! Mike
