Friday's Quick Intervals
Friday, April 08, 2016 · Mike Davis
Good morning. Grab your coffee and pull up a chair! Let’s do some quick intervals. This weekend No Finish Line Running will be out running “Reds Race for a Better Community” 5 miler. Not sure how I personally will hold up as I either tore our severely strained my right MCL. Between doing that and a horrible cold, I have not run in like 10 days or so. My goal for Reds will to finish and have a good time! “Reds” has been a fixture in the Dover New Hampshire race community for 35 years as well as the entire Seacoast. It is a great way to wind up our “NFLR Winter Training” group as well! This past Tuesday we welcomed Ryan Bailey to our NFLR team. Ryan is a physical therapist as well as a certified Pilate’s instructor. She brings a great combination of skills that will benefit all those want to get stronger in the core, hips and other vital running muscles. The class time has moved to 6:30pm on Tuesday’s and still a low drop in fee of $10. Great way to add strength training to your overall functional fitness. Come give it a try and say hi to Ryan! Do you know anyone that needs some encouragement to start running? April 23rd at 9am we will be hosting a “Beginner Runner 101” seminar. This seminar is a way to give people that are interested in running an opportunity to learn the basics and remove any fears. The class size is limited so encourage your non-runners to sign up at www.nofinishlinerunning.com While it is geared toward beginners there will be great information for all! Anyone else eager for spring! Seriously the weather has been a mess here on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. Between snow, wind, cold and rain the past few weeks has been living up to the “In like a lamb and out like a lion” cliché. Because of my knee and cold it hasn’t really made a difference to my running but, I know it has not been fun for running! Better days ahead! Over the past couple of weeks NFLR has welcomed some new clients to our family. All of them are great fits and will be fun to work with. Our staff of coaches continues to become more diversified and give us the unique ability to offer certified running coaches that can help runners of all levels as well as any goal. One of our latest new clients is a young woman that suffered from an injury that had her wearing an air boot for a great deal of time last year. During our initial consultation it was easy to see that she dove into running with complete abandon. While having some initial success her enthusiasm led to a pretty serious injury. Now she wants to start from the beginning and progress at a pace that will let her run healthy and happy. Coach Jennifer Miller is working with her and because Jen has education in anatomy as well as being an experienced coach, she will help this woman get back running the right way. We are also blessed at NFLR to have my wife, Kathleen Davis who not only a certified running coach but, also an ACE certified fitness trainer. This combination gives us a valuable resource that will benefit all those runners that we work with. Kathy is constantly passing valuable information to all of our coaches for core strengthening, stretching, full body strengthening and much more. So much to take in sometimes! Time to get a moving! I hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend. Come check out Pilates on Tuesday night and encourage your non-running friends to come to our “Beginner Runners 101” seminar! See you on the roads (I hope) God Bless! Mike
