Friday's Quick Intervals

Good morning! Today I am once again on the road, this time I am in Sunny Ocala Florida. Silly hot here! Let's rev up the engine and get moving... Market Square 10K little over a week away and it appears that there are still bibs to be had. Great local Portsmouth race with runners of all levels. I will be out on the course following my runners and cheering on many I have worked with over the years. Definitely a favorite race of many on the seacoast. Looking for a race that is scenic, challenging and much more? Take the ferry from Portland Maine and run the Peaks Island 5 miler. The race is on July 29th, runs around this beautiful island and following the race there's a lobster and chicken cookout. We ran this one a few years ago and it was a great time. Go to: https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/PeaksIsland/PeaksIslandRoadRace to sign up. Looking to burn a few more calories during your run. Skip eating before your morning run and you can burn the previous days calories. Not a wise choice for longer runs or before a race, but something that you can do when running 5 miles or less. I often do this before my morning strength training so that I am burning fat and not trying to build muscle. I will go into more detail at a later date. If you are looking for running apparel bargains, Runners Alley Portsmouth loads up the tables on Market Square day and offers amazing deals. Just don't get mad when you see that pair of running pants half the price you paid for last winter. Be sure to stop by their outside sales. If you think you know how you run, think again! In a study a significant number of runners were asked about their running form and then went through a complete gait analysis. The overwhelming majority were completely wrong about such things as; arm swing, foot strike, posture and stride. Understanding how form (gait) effects performance, efficiency and injuries is critical. If you haven't gotten a professional gait analysis, contact NFLR and schedule a time. Don't have someone pull out a tablet and video you, a true gait analysis is the only way to accurately understand your form. Last year NFLR purchased some great running shirts that are now worn by many around Dover, Portsmouth, New Castle, and many other New England towns. These custom designed shirts are great for running and dawn the colorful NFLR logo. We have been discussing adding some other apparel that we can give away at various functions or as contest prizes. Do you have any suggestions on what we should add to our inventory? We are thinking the half zip, long sleeve shirts, but we are interested in your thoughts and ideas. Leave a comment with your thoughts. Time for me to slow it down and wind up my intervals. Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend! Thanks for stopping in! Mike
