Friday's Quick Intervals
Friday, June 13, 2014 · Mike Davis
Good morning! Time to poor that cup of coffee and join me for a few intervals... July 20th will be the Pease 7K road race out at the Pease Tradeport. This race is still fairly new to the New Hampshire running scene but offers a great flat course and raises money for the "Make a Wish" kids that want to experience the Air National Guard. Check out http://www.pease7k.org/. Tomorrow is the running of a staple race on the New Hampshire seacoast as 2,200 runners will toe the line for the Market Square 10K. This race is popular to many in New Hampshire because of the scenic Portsmouth course and the Market Square festivities that follow. Looks like rain is in the forecast, but rain or shine the race will go on. Sold out, so if you didn't get in, go route on the runners. Our Runners Alley beginner 10K team will be running aforementioned Market Square 10K race and it is always exciting for me to see our runners cross the finish line. Lot's of time with this group but last Tuesday was the best as I sent groups of 6 out on a scavenger hunt looking for something unique to bring back. The winning group brought back a chick that had just been born in one of the runners classroom that day. Hilarious! Will be sad to be done with this group, but I often see many from this training in future training groups. Good luck runners! The first half of 2014 has been a difficult one for yours truly as I have been hit with various injuries and the calf that I had a problem with about 6 weeks ago flared up again yesterday when my wife and I set out for an easy run. Pretty frustrating start to 2014 for me but I will get through and have a better second half! Took on a new client recently at No Finish Line Running, Patrick Dennis from across the boarder in Maine. Patrick is fairly new to running but is totally bitten by the running bug and now has to learn how to run healthy. Patrick has some issues to figure out with his running form as well as weaknesses in certain muscles, but his trust in us is amazing and that will make a huge difference in his training. We understand the important details that go into running both for good running health and efficiency, but it requires trust on the part of those we work with. Patrick is going to be a very good runner in time. Back on the road Sunday to Savannah Georgia for a few days of work meetings. Will probably take advantage of that time to let my calf heal. Savannah is a great place to visit but tremendously hot and not great for running this time of year, so that makes resting my calf easier. Time to move along and finish up. Hope you have a great Friday and if you are running Market Square give me a shout out on the course as I will hopefully be in multiple places cheering on our 10K team! Mike
