Friday's Quick Intervals

Good morning! Once again I am writing from an airport! This time I am on route North Carolina and thankfully all is on time despite last nights tornado's. Hopefully this will be my last airplane ride for a while! Well lets get rolling with our intervals... Less than two weeks until Kathy and I begin working with another group of runners. As I have mentioned before this will be a Portsmouth Runners Alley intermediate 10K training group. We will be training for six weeks and preparing the participants for the Saunders 10K race. The training will consist of weekly track workouts, so if you would like an introduction to the track, come on out! Sign up at Runners Alley in Portsmouth or if you have any questions, let me know. Met with one of my clients the other night and both of us have been frustrated with her current injury which has temporarily derailed a very promising racing season. I have spent hours reviewing her gait video and I am hoping that I have spotted a slight flaw that will correct the cause of her injury. I am thankful that we have such a great resource in our gait analysis, it makes helping runners so much easier. During that same meeting with my injured client she mentioned that "Reach the Beach" is only 2 months away and that kind of shook me! With the injuries I have been battling I lost track of my preparation time and I was jolted a bit. Thankfully yesterday I was able to run 5 miles on the treadmill without any calf problems. I choose the treadmill so that I could control the surface and incline and that seemed to make a difference. My daughter Jennifer and I discussed it later and she suggested that being able to run on a flat surface for a couple of miles before any incline probably helps me at this point. I would agree with that and will have to figure out my next few runs accordingly. I love having a daughter that is a certified running coach, understands muscular usage (trained occupational therapist) and loves running. Having chats with her about running and our NFLR runners is not only beneficial, but a lot of fun! She offers great insight and brings a wealth of technical knowledge. I think I have mentioned a couple times that I am signed up for the York Day's 5K. Come run with me! Been a great week at NFLR and after the 4th holiday is passed, we can settle in with our clients and get them all on a good routine. It is tough to push runners during the summer, but we understand how helpful it is to get out on the track and work at it. Looks like our flight crew just walked up so I will wind it up. I hope you all have a safe and great 4th of July. Enjoy! Mike
