Friday's Quick Intervals
Friday, December 12, 2014 · Mike Davis
Happy Friday! I am extremely happy that it is Friday and looking forward to a great weekend! Since it is Friday morning that means it is time to fill up your mug and hit the intervals with me. You may need a sippy cup! The NFLR Winter Running Group has had some challenges lately with weather that has been somewhat unsafe to run in. Because we are a safety first group we had to cancel a couple runs, but it is long winter and we will be out there more often than not. Last night was a make-up night for anyone that wanted to come out and get a few miles in but as it turned out all but one decided to stay of the slick roads. In fact Lew and I were going to blow off the run when we ran in to Beth Faria who convinced us to go for a quick run. It turned out that we ran just over 3 miles and I am thankful that Beth showed up and prodded us to run! Thanks Beth! We will be back at Juicy Roots Saturday morning at 8:30, so hopefully our full group will be there. Just got an email from a person looking for a running coach and this may have been the most unusual request I have ever received. This person had quite an obsession with their running and most certainly requires a unique coach. Our strength at NFLR is being able to work with individuals of all levels, needs and circumstances, but definitely not in this situation. Stopped at Rogers Restaurant in Dover after our run last night and the guy who took my order somehow figured I was a running coach and asked if I had a business card on me? Being that I just came in from a run, I didn’t but thankfully I had a few in my truck. His wife has gotten into running and hates treadmills (go figure), so he wanted to hook her up with us. I told him about our NFLR Winter Running program and he thought that would be great for her. Truly amazing how come by so many that want to run outside during the winter and need only some support. I continue to struggle with my working out these days and this week was typical of my woes. Tonight’s run was the only workout I have gotten all week. I have let myself get bogged down with excuses that are pretty weak and then I feel too tired. Without a doubt being tired is a result of not working out so I need to break the pattern and find that routine again. Today’s breakfast Low-fat plane Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey, one slice of organic whole wheat toast w/peanut butter, glass of 100 percent grapefruit juice and of course coffee. No doubt this will be my healthiest meal of the day as we are having our Christmas party today at the Gaslight pizza place in Portsmouth. Probably should have skipped the toast because of all the bread (pizza) I’ll be having. In just 9 days we will hit the first official day of winter! While the weather has been winter like already, the greater significance of that great day is it is the shortest day of the year and then folks our daylight starts increasing! Longer days! Don’t bring me down with talk of it just being mere minutes or even just seconds of increase, I will take whatever increase and be happy! Well folks, time to wind down the intervals and move along. Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend! Don’t fear that you have missed your opportunity to join our NFLR Winter Running group, just come on by Juicy Roots tomorrow and join us. If you are going to go to Portsmouth and run at Runners Alley, don’t forget to bring a toy for the “Toys for Tots” run! Be well and God Bless! Mike
