Friday's Quick Intervals
Friday, January 23, 2015 · Mike Davis
Happy Friday! Been a few Fridays since I have done some quick intervals so just to make sure everyone is staying in good shape, let’s get some done! Fill your coffee mug up put on a spill lid and hit it! Last night was our first Pilates night at “the center” and oh my gosh! I kind of scoffed when our instructor said to get mostly if not all 3LB weights, but boy oh boy did my shoulders burn from those little weights! Seriously I struggled with some of the movements, but I totally can see how this is going to make a difference to me and the others in the class. We had a full house and everyone seemed pleased (mostly when we were done!). Lots of core work, but also legs/hip stuff that have a direct impact on running or any endurance sport. If you are interested in next week’s free session email me and based on numbers we will possibly add a second class. Pilates is nothing short of amazing for runners! Hard but I am sticking with it! Great first week at the center with a few consultations, the open house, Pilates and some planning for the spring. For those in the Dover area we are putting together a 10K training group for the 603 10k which is part of the Dover series. More to come. Also, don’t forget that we have strength & conditioning classes Monday and Wednesday at 6:30. Great way to work with the area’s premier trainers. The drop in is only $6.00 so your investment is minimal while you improve your strength where it really matters! Contact us for more information. Been a great week for running. Low temperatures but minimal winds make it much more bearable. After tomorrows run I will have gotten in 3 runs this week and while that may not seem like a big deal, it is for me lately. My distance hasn’t been great but it does not matter. I also worked out at “the center” Wednesday morning doing a circuit training and if I can find some time today to squeeze in another circuit workout, I will have had a great week! Yesterday I woke up at 5am and told myself just to move and not think. That worked as I was on the road by 5:30 and thoroughly enjoyed my run. Did a “Running Form Analysis” earlier in the week with Rick Day who won a free analysis during our open house. He was so pleased that he insisted on paying half of the regular cost. I put up a fight, but not for too long (got bills to pay). Very classy move on Rick’s part but I believe he would tell you that the running form analysis was worth much, much more! Next week I am going to add another feature or more like change one of my regular coffee and chats to a little educational chat. From time to time I get educational or technical but I feel like I need to become more regular so that my coffee partners can maybe learn something they may not have known or just reminded of something that may make a difference. Let me know if there’s anything you might like covered? Time to go take on Friday! I hope you have a great day, a great weekend and if you haven’t checked out the “No Finish Line Running Coaching & Endurance Resource Center,” come on by Saturday for a look. We will be there from 11am till 2pm. God bless! Mike
