Friday's Quick Intervals

Friday, March 13, 2015 · Mike Davis

Good morning, Wow it is Friday and we are almost half way through March! Crazy. Let’s fill up the coffee mugs and roll through some intervals. Saint Paddies day weekend is on us and here on the seacoast there will be races all over the place. I touched on the 3 races on Wednesday but in case you didn’t share your coffee with me, there will be the Saint Paddies 5 miler out at the Pease Tradeport Sunday, the “Run Before You Crawl” tomorrow and the rescheduled “Half at the Hamptons” on Sunday as well. I recommend doing the Run Before You Crawl, and the Saint Paddies 5 miler. Sounds like a great weekend to me! Good luck to all runners. The Center continues to be a great place for runners to come together and get stronger and prepared to run. Both our Strength and Conditioning Classes and our Pilates’ had great participation this week. People are finding the friendly atmosphere is very welcoming and that adds another element of them wanting to be there. I most definitely want to have a place that is welcoming for all and fun to be at while helping people become fit and better prepared. Rob Levy, the running columnists from the Portsmouth Herald came by the Center for the first time last Friday and he was so impressed that he wants to offer his expertise in marketing to help bring more people to our resource center. Rob is a great writer and a super nice guy, but he is also one of the area’s best runners, however unless you are running 50 mile races you won’t see a lot of him. That is just plain crazy! We are finalizing our flyer for the NFLR Spring/Summer Dover training group. While this undertaking is quite challenging we feel that we now have the resources to make it happen. Beginners to advance are welcome to join us as we make our way through spring as well as much of the summer. We will train for 3 races with the final one being the Saunders 10K in August. What a great opportunity for every level of runner to enjoy the benefits of professionally certified running coaches while being part of a group. I am really super excited about this group and believe it will be a lot of fun. Start date will be the week of April 13th so contact us if you want to join in. Ran yesterday morning and if it isn’t bad enough that the first 1.5 miles of my route is up hill but I also had to run into a 15mph wind! My goodness did I feel like that was going to suck the wind right out of me! I recovered on a nice downhill before making my way up the steep Henry Law hills. Character building is what it is all about. My distance wasn’t great, but the goal was 50 minutes and by golly I did that! Runners Alley has started their beginner 5K training for those in the Portsmouth area that want to prepare for the Red Hook/ Runners Alley 5K. That is a great group for those down in Portsmouth. I will also be leading the Runners Alley 10K training group along with my daughter Jennifer. That training will prepare people for Market Square in June and this group is another popular one. If you sense that I am all over the running map you would be correct! I believe I pretty much got the Seacoast and beyond covered. Time to get along and go meet an old friend for breakfast. Friends are huge to me and thankfully I have many good ones! Have a great Friday and thanks for doing some intervals with me. God Bless! Mike
