Friday's Quick Intervals

Friday, April 10, 2015 · Mike Davis

Good morning! Yes it is Friday and I am happy for all of you that will be enjoying a weekend of sun and fun! I will be out at Pease serving my country for most of the weekend except for a few hours Sunday when I am being allowed to run the “Reds Shoe Barn Race for a Better Community” 5 miler. I am happy to be able to get a few hours to run with my winter training group! Since it is Friday I have a full mug of coffee and ready to roll through some quick intervals. Let’s go! This weekend Dover will get into their race series big time with two races. The first will be the “Saint Mary Academy” 5K on Saturday, followed on Sunday with the aforementioned “Reds Shoe Barn Race for a Better Community” 5 miler. Many locals will be running both so that’s pretty cool. Over in Newmarket the very popular “Great Bay Half Marathon” will kick off Sunday morning. So there are races all over the place and the road race season is off and running, literally. The weather appears to be favorable so if you are running, don’t over dress! Next Wednesday at 6pm we will be kicking off the “NFLR Spring/Summer Dover Training Group.” This training group will be an awesome way to be part of a group and work your way through a couple 5Ks and then cap it off with the Saunders 10K in August. We will have two groups within the one so that we help beginners through more advanced runners. Wednesday nights will be from the 7th Settlement Brewery in Dover and Saturday mornings will be from the “NFLR Coaching & Endurance Resource Center” at 8:30am. We will provide experienced and certified coaches to help all levels start running or improve their running. We have many resources available that we will utilize but the greatest think will be being a part of a group. If you have any friends that want to begin running please bring them along or send them over. Money back guaranteed! We continue to make an impact with local runners through our professional “running form analysis.” I am really happy with the level of satisfaction of those that have come in to learn about their running form and how to improve it. Having video analyzed by experienced gait analysis people can really make a difference in your running and possibly prevent injuries. Pretty much 100 percent of those that come in for a gait analysis have a vastly different perception of their running form than what it actually is. Having an opportunity to actually see themselves goes a long ways toward correcting flaws and weaknesses. Contact us a info@nofinishlinerunning.com and set up an appointment to improve your running form! Here’s to hoping that the lousy weather we go on Wednesday was the final remnants of winter and the great weather coming is the beginning of a great spring. Last night I wore shorts and a long sleeve running shirt for our Group training in Portsmouth and I must say I was a bit cold. I refuse to go backwards! Closure Two years ago my wife Kathy and I were in Boston waiting on a client to finish the Boston marathon. Standing next to a trash receptacle just up from the finish line that 20 minutes or so later had a homemade bomb planted in it. Thankfully we moved away from the finish line but I returned to pick up a cup of hot tea for my runner at the Starbucks about 100 yards from the finish when the bombs exploded. We were very fortunate to have come away from this tragic event safe and physically unharmed while many others did not. Wednesday’s verdict will not bring back those that lost their lives or suffered serious injuries, but hopefully there will be some sense of closure and justice will have been served as best possible. I am not sure what I want for a sentence for this terrorist but I am pleased that the trial has happened and can now be a thing of the past. We are fortunate in that our lives have gone on while others still suffer today and my prayers definitely go out to them. “Boston Strong” for sure! Time to get to the Center for some strength training. Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend! God Bless! Mike
