Friday's Quick Intervals

Good morning, grab your coffee and let’s go! Tomorrow is the “Run Before You Crawl” 5K in Dover. Pretty exciting here some our NFLR runners excited about running this early in the season. The really awesome thing is that they beyond prepared to run because of our winter running group. There was certainly a time when early races were challenging because of winter hibernation but, now we have groups like NFLR that run right through the winter! Good luck to all running! Last week I took C&J back from Logan and was thrilled to sharing the bus with another of my favorite runners, Patty Leblanc. Patty was in multiple groups that I coached and is also from Hillsboro NH, one town over from my hometown of Antrim. We sat together on the bus and talked about running as well as well as caught up with everything else. Such a blessing to have so many friends in the running community! Looks like another nice weekend for running. Wednesday was certainly a freaky day with temps climbing closer to 80 than 70 in some places. Speaking of Wednesday. We had our weekly pub run at the 7th Settlement Wednesday and my hip was not so great. Thankfully it allowed me to hang in long enough to do our hill repeats without a lot of discomfort. Someone asked me what brings on the bouts of discomfort and the only answer I have is that I haven’t been doing Pilates. I definitely believe that is a factor. While Wednesday nights are our Pub Run nights we actually did hill repeats this week and it was a lot of fun! Also very enjoyable after to have dinner and drinks at the “Settlement” after. Saturday/Sunday we “spring forward” and I could not be happier! Having more daylight into the evening is awesome for running and life in general. Safety is always enhanced when we run in the daylight. If you have never run “Reds Shoe Barn Race for a Better Community” 5 miler, you are missing out on a great race that is a lot of fun. The race is April 10th and while it is a challenging course, it is very comforting to have a nice downhill at the finish. 100 percent charity event so definitely a great event! Word here in New Hampshire is that due to the mild winter we will have a bad mosquito season. Obviously the big topic in the news has been the Zirka virus that is spread by mosquitos and the possibilities are scary. It does not appear that we are in an area that is at risk but, good to be diligent. I never put much effort into protection when I run but, we all have to consider some repellent as a defense. As they say; ‘better to be safe than sorry.” Crazy! Time to get moving. Have a great weekend and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
