Friday's Quick Intervals
Friday, January 31, 2014 · Mike Davis
Good morning! No doubt many of you are right there with me when I say TGIF! These cold days don't make weekdays a lot of fun, but weekends are much more bearable! Last day of January and for me that is a huge point of winter, like taking a large weight off my back. February is a short month and it also brings the reporting of pitchers and catchers to spring training. Let's make February a great month! January accomplishment: I did not have a single donut during this first month of the year! While that's not necessarily a huge deal because over the past few years I have vastly reduced my donut consumption, but I don't think I have go a whole month without at least a couple. This accomplishment wasn't by design but probably just a little better discipline. In keeping with this milestone I thought it would be cool to continue on and have a goal for each new month. Coincidently I was eating dinner as I thought about this and stuffing another French fry in my mouth so it didn't take but a few seconds to decide on February's challenge. Not that I eat a lot of French fries, but definitely at least once a week if not more, and there is nothing good about French fries. So my last bite of French Fries last night, marked the beginning of my February challenge. Technically I can have fries today, but I will most definitely not go out of my way that happens, especially since February is a short month anyhow. Do me a favor and give me some encouragement on this one as it may be more difficult than the donut thing. Dover is having their very own running series that kicks off on March 15 at 10:00 with the "Dover main street run before you crawl, St. Paddy's Road Race and Pub Crawl". Sounds like it will be a fun event and a great start to this series. The racing world is definitely becoming more and more competitive with the multiple series and many races to choose from. My coaching duties limit my participation in many races, but I will try to support the local races as best I can. Kathy and I have committed to another year of the Runners Alley group training. We will again work with the Market Square 10K training, the second year of the advance 10K training for Saunders and round out our year with the Seacoast Half Marathon training group. Runners Alley and No Finish Line Running are by far New Hampshire and Southern Maine’s number one resource for helping runners of all levels. Together we introduce hundreds of people to running and then we help them go further or even faster! Well runners, that's all the time I have for today. Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend! Enjoy Mike
