Friday's Short Intervals

Welcome to "Friday's Short Intervals", where I jump around hitting quickly on running stuff and sometimes non running stuff. Coffee in hand and ready to nail my intervals; so lets go! Having done quite a few gait analysis, one of the common questions we get is; "Can I actually change my running gait after all these years?" Well let me share a little personal story. Last Saturday my wife and I went out for a run with our son and 2 miles into the run my wife commented to me that my form was the best she had ever seen it. I understand that "best" is relative to how low you set the bar, but I will gladly take that encouragement. After running the way I have for many years, I am working at changing my running gait and I'm here to tell you, it's not easy, but I'm making progress. Looking to read a great book or perhaps a great Christmas gift for that difficult running person. Neal Bascombs; "The Perfect Mile" was given to me by my daughter a few years ago as a gift and it was like reading a great fiction, but it's true story. Definitely one of my favorite books. Speaking of Christmas, still out there looking for the perfect gift? I'm right there with you, but you can't go wrong with a gift certificate for NFLR. We have many a la carte services such as; personal training plans, 360 gait analysis, individual training sessions, personal training and much more. Call or email for more information or the perfect gift certificate! Next weekend (December 14th) there will be the "Jingle Bell Half Marathon". This is a new race and I am interested to see how the turnout will be? Early on there was a lot of enthusiasm for it, but December is a tough month. Let me know if you run it and how it went? Oh yeah, the race is in Atkinson New Hampshire. Looking for a fun race this weekend? Saturday in Manchester is the "Santa Clause Shuffle". The fun thing about this race is that the first 400 entries get a full Santa Clause suit. According to the website, there are still suits available, so get there early and you can run with 399 other Santa's! Little over a week left for the NFLR free gait analysis. We have been busy doing analysis but will continue to try to fit in as many as we can before this wonderful event winds up on December 15th. We are booking for next week so be sure to drop us an email or you may even call. The response has been wonderful and runners are learning a lot that they didn't know about their running gait. Along the way we are raising a few dollars for the Krempels Center, so this is really cool. A little tidbit you might not know about your coffee drinking running coach; one of my other hobbies is model trains. Not just any model train, but I collect "Marklin" model trains and have a set up in our basement that is in its infancy. Marklin is unique in that they are made in Germany and cannot comingle with any other model train. Sounds snobbish I know, but the system is amazing and quite detailed. As I said I'm in my infancy and still learning the basics. Just a little insight into my other activities. Winter Warriors began this week at Runners Alley. Go by the store for details, but it is a great way to hook up with others for runs and you get a great shirt at the end. Coffee cup is about empty and my last interval is done so I will bid you farewell and have a great day! Thanks for joining me for coffee! Mike
