Fridays Short Intervals
Friday, November 15, 2013 · Mike Davis
How great is it that it is Friday! Thanks joining me for coffee with me. Today's November 15th and we begin our 30 days of free gait analysis with an option for a donation to the Krempels Center. Great opportunity to receive a $50 to $75 value for free or little donation and get a true gait analysis. I can watch people run and pick up some running gait issues, but with the Medical Motion Gait analysis system, I see far more detail. It doesn't stop there either, then we give you some ways to correct it! Contact us now, this is definitely a limited time opportunity! Had to take the Air Force fitness test yesterday and by the Air Force standards I am in perfect shape. Funny, because I feel like I have much work to do on my overall fitness. Good to have that annual requirement done so I can stop practicing sit-ups. Met with a woman I worked with about mid way through her marathon training and we reviewed her race. She fell short of her marathon goal by a few minutes but after reviewing her run, I was impressed with how she did. A 4:12 on a tough course is pretty darn good. Lot's of challenges with the Marine Corp Marathon because of the course structure, and I'm not sure it's meant to be a fast course. We discussed her desire to train with NFLR for her preparation for Boston and most of the conversation centered on the fact that she has done zero strength training. Being that I started late with her, I focused only on her speed work, so given more time we will focus on all facets of a successful training program. She was also very pleased that she had her fastest half marathon time last weekend! American runners were shut out of the top 3 at the New York City marathon recently. We outspend all the competition by a wide margin to train yet rarely do we even compete for the top spots. That tells you a lot about running and how money doesn't necessarily make a difference. Read something yesterday about how we have more running related injuries in the US than many of the poorer countries. Most of those countries don't wear the same running shoes we do or in many cases they run barefoot. Not advocating one or the other, but I would advocate somewhere in between. At some point I will talk about my thoughts on the bare foot versus running shoe battle. Crazy to think that Thanksgiving is like almost 2 weeks away! Road Runners Club of America will hold their annual convention in Spokane Washington next May. Yours truly as the NH RRCA rep will be there along with my RRCA certified wife Kathleen. If you are a member of RRCA you should make plans to attend. Haven't attended before but it seems like a great convention for runners. Finally, been running some 5 minute intervals in my zero drop Asic's 33s and using this easy running time to bring our dog Roy with me. He does okay and it checks off that box we have for getting a walk in with him. Have a great weekend and thanks for having coffee with me! mike
