Fridays Short Intervals
Friday, November 22, 2013 · Mike Davis
Grateful that today is Friday and always enjoy the quick intervals over a cup of joe. In case you didn't know, Runners Alley is starting up their "Winter Warrior's" running program. Nothing elaborate, just show up at RA, run, get points for it and receive a great shirt at winters end. Can't beat that deal, specially if you need a little motivation or if you enjoy the social side of running. Stop in at Runners Alley and get the details! Great story in the Portsmouth Herald talking about your esteemed running coach and the gait analysis charity event we are running until 15 December. Rob Levey reached out to yours truly and wanted to not only know about the charity event, but also wanted the scoop about NFLR. Mr. Levey himself a great runner has a regular running column on the Seacoast running seen and truly captured the essence of NFLR in his story. Don't put off getting that free gait analysis! Many are in disbelief over their perceived running gait versus what they are seeing on our state of the art analysis. The system we use is far more than an app that lacks the detail and clarity. Knowing how you run is the first step in improving your running efficiency and preventing injuries. After going over an analysis yesterday here is a quote: " Wow, I never thought I ran like this! Everyone should get this done." This young ladies perceived thoughts of her running gait were far different than her actual running gait. She has some work to do, but now she's aware. Set up an appointment now and help out the Krempels Center as well. Ran some intervals with my neighbor yesterday and it has been a while since I've done intervals and let me tell you; writing 'quick intervals' is far easier than running them! Jennifer Davis Miller, daughter, cofounder of NFLR, certified running coach and NFLR newsletter editor will be moving to Portsmouth around month from now with her husband to begin their internships. It will be great to have Mrs. Miller (she doesn't go by Davis-Miller) in the area to run with as well as have more face to face NFLR meetings. Her desire to help runners of all levels comes out in both the NFLR newsletter as well as our strategic planning sessions. We have typically gotten together every couple of months for planning sessions that look at today, tomorrow and beyond at NFLR. She has a great mind and is in lockstep with me on wanting to be the number one resource for runners of all levels. I'm excited that Jennifer will be closer; making it easier to put her imprint on No Finish Line Running. If you live on the NH Seacoast and aren't a member of Coastal Athletic Association, I would have to question why? For a small annual fee, you get to enjoy great benefits such as: group runs, track workouts, social gatherings and much more. Check out http://www.coastalathletic.org/ and get signed up. My favorite activity is the monthly pub runs. Not much of a drinker but I enjoy the camaraderie. Less than a week out till one of my favorite days and that being Thanksgiving. Our plans for that day do not allow for a Turkey Trot, but if there was one that gave out pumpkin pies, I would adjust my plans! Hope you find a race, if not find someone to run a few miles with. If you're around Dover, I will be hitting the roads around 8:00 for some reasonable distance and would love some company! Time to recover from my Friday intervals and get my strength training in! Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend! Mike
