Getting Lost
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 · Mike Davis
Good morning,
Last night I finished writing a paper for my Sports Injury & Prevention class and that has pretty much kept me inside all week. A few push-ups are about all the physical activity I have gotten. Hopefully after classes today I will get a run in!
Getting some great feedback on the past few Coffee & Chats, with one being about fueling and the other that drew some nice comments, was the one on the big toe! I really enjoy chatting about the science of running, but I always fear that it will put people to sleep, even with a cup of coffee in their hand! I guess there are more runners out there that enjoy learning about the whys and the how their bodies function or do not function in some cases. We will continue to provide insight into the geeky side of running and hopefully you will gain some knowledge that will help with your running. I will state unequivocally that every runner should get a running form analysis (gait analysis). That alone will improve your running and may way help you avoid being one of the many that suffer running injuries. Check out www.nofinishlinerunning.com for more information on our professional gait analysis.
Since I took Easter Sunday off from Coffee & Chat, I did not have the opportunity to share with you my debacle of a run on Saturday. I went over to the reservoir to get a 70 to 80-minute run in, hoping to get it done before the temperature rose. Instead of staying on my normal trail, I ventured off on a trail that turned to a very secondary road. No problem, it looked like a nice road, surrounded by woods and quiet. A couple turn later, I ran around a gate that I thought was meant to keep vehicles out and eventually that brought me to an abandoned camp. Think Friday the 13th! Eventually I got out of there and proceeded back, except my turns were no longer looking familiar. I tried a couple different directions and that only made things more confusing. Eventually I came upon a couple houses that sat off the road quite a bit, but I figured I had better ask for some direction or it would be a long afternoon. The first house had like 4 cars in the driveway, but not a soul around. The second house actually had front door open and 2 old dogs met me as I made my way up the driveway. It was kind of weird because it took a while before an older woman came to the door and when she did, she asked if I opened the door? I assured her I did not and that I was trying to get some directions back to the reservoir. She had to think about it for a few minutes (which had me worried), but she was able to point me in the right direction. Thankfully, her directions got me back to the path I needed and nearly 30 minutes later than I intended, I finished a very warm run! Always nice to have a little adventure!
Time to get out of here. Have a great Wednesday!
God Bless!
