Goals & Details

Good morning!

What a crazy week this past one was for me. Monday, I got a solid workout in called REHIIT7, and struggled the following days with my hip and the same side IT-Band. Of course, I needed not to look any further than the mirror for the culprit. I have put little (if any) emphasis on physical therapy exercises and primarily focused on full body exercising and my running. So, I had to pause and give my hip some rest as well as do specific exercises which I have neglected.

Goal setting is a great mechanism for accomplishing challenges, but the consequential details can often get lost in the desire of the primary goal. I want to run a half marathon in November (13.1 miles) and I used my own professionally designed training module to layout the training plan. This training module is something I have spent a few years working on and it is a great tool for building training plans for runners. However, no training module can account for all details of a healthy training program. Before we create a training program for a runner, we must understand far more than their goals. There are very few (if any) who have come to us, who fit into a cookie cutter training plan. Our training module is unique in that it combines science and personalization, but for us to provide the best possible training and coaching for a runner, we must also know health background, experience, schedule issues and other challenges.

As certified running coaches, we are well versed in all the aspects of putting together a successful training plan and I skipped past some of those aspects for myself. Seven plus months removed from hip-replacement; I still require regular bouts of physical therapy. While I do not need to go to an actual physical therapist, I do need to continue strengthening and improving range of motion of my whole left side. My goal of a half marathon may be a bit aggressive, but the best chance at success will require paying attention to those same details we focus on for those runners we coach. I am no different than most who come to NFLF for coaching help, in that I got sidetracked by focusing primarily on my goal. I have reeled myself in and will intentionally add physical therapy days into my training plan. Just as we would do for our runners.

Opportunity

June 20th we are starting our half marathon beginner training group. With current circumstances what they are, we will offer beginner training 2 different ways. We will have in person training that will be limited to a group of 10 (9 plus a coach) or online. This will be a unique opportunity and will require adjustments as things playout. We have not got the sign up onto the website yet but here is a Facebook link for more details: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=3384508431582118&set=a.1053946011305050

We are also opening the Center up for one on one and partner training. We will have a list of precautions up on the website soon. If you are ready to invest in your fitness future, we are here to help! You can reach us at: info@nofinishlinefitness.com.

Time to get along. Have a great week and an even better June!

God Bless
