Going ons at NFLR

Good morning! Grab your mug of coffee and pull up a chair. Big week for almost all of our training group as 3 of the 4 groups will be out in Rye tomorrow running the Saunders 10K road race. Two of the 3 groups have been training since way back in April and Saunders will be the second race we have trained for. As a running coach around Portsmouth, Dover and Rochester, it is always so cool to see our runners at races like Saunders. The spirit and pride that all the runners radiate is such a wonderful site to see and when they are wearing an NFLR logo on the front of their shirt, it is really something special to be a part of. I had been planning on running in Saunders but have since decided to be down there as a coach and photographer instead. This is something like my 4th year of having a group of runners that I have worked with at Saunders and their running comes before mine. I am so excited for all of our NFLR runners as this will be a fun race for them! It is also fun for me as once again I will see a lot of friends out running and many that I have worked with over the years. With these groups winding down it is always a bit sad. However, I am hopeful that most if not all of the runners will jump in to one of the training nights we will be offering next. The idea of having NFLR training groups Monday through Thursday and Saturday sounded kind of crazy at first but, as we worked through the logistics and concept, it seemed like a great idea. Some days it might be a small group, but no matter, the idea is to provide NFLR led training opportunities to the greatest possible extent so that runners can have enough options to keep training with the benefits NFLR provides. Certified experienced coaches, the NFLR Resource Center, great training plans and various running routes are just some of the benefits but, it also just awesome to have that accountability that a group brings. We will be starting our week off Monday mornings at 5:30am at Dover Delight where we will run for 50 minutes. Tuesday’s we will be at the Bellamy road parking lot for Dover high school at 6pm for a track workout or some other speed and strengthening workout. The next night at 6pm (Wednesday), we will be at the “7th Settlement Brewery” for a fun pub run, with an option after to hangout for dinner or a drink. Thursday nights we will be in various locations depending on the planned workout, and that information can be found weekly at www.nofinishlinerunning.com. Saturday mornings at 8:30am will be a great opportunity to finish your week down at the Center for a group run that is open to all! So you can see that we are challenging ourselves with a crazy schedule but, we want to be there for you. Looks like the weather hear in the northeast will take a turn from the heat and humidity and move toward more comfortable temperatures. No doubt most of us are pretty excited about that and the effects it will have on our running. While not in a rush to get winter here, I love late August and fall running, so I am ready for it! Thursday night looks perfect for Saunders as the temps should be around the low 70s for the race and that is darn near perfect! Now is when I really want things to slow down so that I can enjoy the benefits of this time a year. Time to get moving. Have a super day and hope to see you on the roads or better yet come on to one of our runs! We will start next Tuesday at the track and then our new training schedule will be in full swing the following Monday morning. Would be great to see you! God Bless! Mike
