Portsmouth Indoor Pool & Aquatic Fitness Center Saturday, April 25 7:30am – 8:30am Learn about what it’s like to swim across the English Channel (Portsmouth, NH) – Seacoast area athletes and pool supporters will have a unique opportunity to learn what it’s like to swim the English Channel from pool member Bob Fernald. Bob successfully swam across the English Channel on July 22, 2014 in just under 11 hours. His swim was the fastest crossing time under the Channel Swimming and Pilots Federation in 2014. He was awarded the Euro Tunnel Trophy for this achievement. He was also a finalist for the Male, Solo Swim of the Year by the International Marathon Swimmers Federation. The English Channel is the most famous endurance challenge swim in the world. It involves swimming 21miles (minimum) from the United Kingdom to France, through one of the world's busiest shipping channels. Swimmers also have to contend with strong tidal cross currents, cold water, jellyfish, and the notoriously fickle British weather. Less than 1,500 people have swum the English Channel, less than 1,000 are men as of this day. Please join us to see old friends, meet new friends, and enjoy Bob’s presentation at the The Little Theater in the Portsmouth High School (next door to the Indoor Pool) from 7:30am to 8:30am.
