Holiday Challenge For You!

Good day!

How amazing has our weather been here in New Hampshire! Even with some much needed rain, we have enjoyed a comfortable (and beautiful) October to this point. The week ahead looks to be more of the same!

The one downside to autumn for me, is that it passes much to quickly and the beautiful trees turn bare and skeletal like. I once said to a friend, “I wish everyday could be like this” and his response was: “If everyday were like this, we wouldn’t appreciate it as much.” I suppose that is true, and autumn fits into that category.

Understanding that each day, each beautiful leaf, and each scenic moment, are to be cherished and valued and not taken for granted, is the secret to feeling blessed for me. Recently I listened to a new song by Tim McGraw intitled, Hallelujahville, and while I love the song, one line really grabbed me. “It’s a cold beer sundown.” I am not a beer drinker, but the idea of sitting with that someone special, and enjoying a sunset is a moment to be cherished.

As each leaf turns from a brilliant color to brown, it is sign of November coming. While we may long for fall to slow down, we turn our attention to the holidays, winter and pulling out warmer clothes. Thanksgiving is first up and quickly followed by erecting our Christmas trees and programing our playlist to include Christmas music. Most definitely, Thanksgiving is a special favorite time for me. Not just the day itself, but I very much enjoy the evening before. I have many wonderful memories of times shared both the night before (more intimate) and with family on Thanksgiving Day itself.

I know it is just past mid-October, so let us not rush to November 27th. However, we (NFLF) have been discussing how we might encourage not only our clients, but others to stay fitness motivated during the busy holiday season. I tend to increase my caloric intake during the holidays and often my workouts decrease. While I am unique in some ways, I believe this is not one of them. Many challenges come into play as we flip the calendar to November when it comes to our fitness. Shorter daylight hours, social events, cooling temperatures and so on, all contribute to reduced focus on our exercising. With all of this in mind we came up with our “No Finish Line Fitness Holiday Challenge.” Beginning November 1st and running through the remainder of the year, we have put together a fitness motivational challenge that will be fun, rewarding, and charitable. I am extremely excited as this challenge covers all aspects of our mission to help people. A wonderful aspect of the “NFLF Holiday Challenge,” is that you do not have to be an NFLF client to participate. There are two simple requirements: One, we are asking for a $5.00 minimum entry that will go to a homeless shelter and the second, you must utilize the MyZone technology (keep reading).

Over the past 14 months NFLF has utilized the MyZone heartrate system with most of our clients and it has been amazingly helpful in motivating them inside our NFLF Center as well as at home. With Myzone your workout effort (heart rate) earns you effort points (MEPs) and the accumulating MEPs is a great way to set goals and stay motivated. Flat out the best fitness tool available. The cost for the Myzone strap (MZ3) from NFLF is normally $75.00, but for this challenge it will be $70.00. This is the only cost to utilize Myzone (free App) and you can use it anywhere without needing your smart phone. We will even provide loaner devices for anyone who does not want to purchase one.

The NFLF Holiday Challenge

  • Begins November 1st and ends December 31st
  • Donations of a minimum of $5.00 to enter (to be donated to a homeless shelter) and NFLF will match the total donations
  • If you meet the effort point minimum in November you will receive a custom ugly sweater sweatshirt at the end of November and then if you meet the effort point minimum at the end of December, you will receive another custom prize
  • You can exercise however you like
  • I will be doing a Facebook Live workout each week throughout the challenge

There are more details, and they will be coming over the next few days. However, to get an Myzone MZ3 device, you need to let us know quickly. We have a small stock on hand, but it takes 5 to 7 days to replenish.

This challenge is all about helping people stayed motivated throughout the holidays and to make it fun! We are also excited about including a charity opportunity and while we only require a $5.00 minimum, we welcome however much each participant wants to donate. All proceeds are going to a homeless shelter and will be matched by NFLF.

Wow, lots of chat! Hope you think about joining us for the challenge. In any event, have a great week and enjoy the colors!

God Bless
