Hump Day coffee and chat
Wednesday, September 04, 2013 · Mike Davis
Good morning! Not exactly hump day for me and my wife as we have to work this weekend. For 23 years we have worked in the Air National Guard fulltime and with a few exceptions we have had to work one week a month for those 23 years. Beyond the weekend duty I have truly enjoyed serving our country and wearing the uniform, but those weekends never come at a great time. Last night our training group did some hill training and secret be known; this particular training is framed as a way to improve leg strength, cardio, form and just the experience of running a hill, but I believe the greatest value is in the unity it develops amongst the group. Running up and down the same hill somewhat together builds a camaraderie that's hard to develop with other group runs. Everyone groans, moans, but ultimately encourages each other as we go up and down the hill and as a coach I love seeing all the various interactions that go on. After a few years of coaching I get the most comments about how much my runners enjoyed the hill training. Most groan before and during but looking back they feel accomplished. Even the ones that miss it are disappointed at missing it. Well this will be a short one today as I have some things to get done. Enjoy your coffee! mike
