Late Coffee

Monday, November 11, 2013 · Mike Davis

This is not your typical morning chat with a cup of coffee. Sunday is closer to over than starting as I sit with a cup of coffee and finally able to capture the events of the day. Many of you readers are aware of why this particular piece is later than sooner because you were at the same event I was at. The 2013 Seacoast Half Marathon was this morning and once again a sellout crowd of runners toed the start line and finished the 13.1 mile course. Being part of the Runners Alley Half Marathon coaching staff is somewhat bitter sweet for me because while I get to work with my wife to help prepare a group of runners, we don't get to actually run the race itself. Now let me be clear in that while I would love to run this great race because it was the race that propelled me to become a coach; however as a coach I rather be able to get around the course and encourage the group of runners we worked with. If I were able to run back to front multiple times I would most definitely run the race, but since that's not possible, a bike is the better option. Don't interpret this to mean that today was not special for me because it totally was. Working with my wife to help people accomplish something truly special like this is an honor and a joy. In fact I truly believe that running your first half marathon is life changing and being a part of helping people do that is the best for a coach! Another special part of today was seeing so many runners that we have worked with over the years out and running this race like they owned it! These runners have truly embraced "no finish line running", as they ran past the finish lines over the years and never stopped running. One of my current clients had only been able to dream of even getting to the start line, but because of injuries she had attempted and failed a few times. Today she not only got to the starting line, but she killed the course at 1:48. Great job Jaime and congratulations! Jaime is like so many runners that I have been lucky to work with in that she has the heart of a lion and refuses to give up. All Jaime needed was someone to give her some structure and help her with being more well rounded. Her 2013 has been nothing short of amazing. With the Seacoast Half Marathon in the history books, now NFLR moves to its next big event. If you had a race bag you many have noticed our postcard flyer in it and on that card we announced a month long event that you should take advantage of. Beginning November 15th and running through December 15th, NFLR will be offering a basic gait analysis for free with an optional donation to Krempel's Center. Over the years I have seen a great need for gait analysis in this area and being able to offer it has been a personal goal of mine. Seeing yourself on video and being able have your gait analyzed is critical to improving your running as well as possibly preventing an injury. Medical Motion gait system is a professional gait analysis system that is far superior to those aps that are out there. Call or email us now to set up your free analysis! The beauty of this event is that we can also lend our support to the Krempel's Foundation, an organization that helps those that have to deal with brain trauma's. As I said the analysis is free, the donation is totally by choice. Email us now as we will be doing only 50. Congratulations to all that ran the race and thanks to those that were out there helping make it possible! Have a great week! mike
