Making a Difference at Any Age

Good morning!
Gosh this is my first Coffee & Chat for July! Not intentional, but I am back sharing a cup of coffee with you (in my favorite Winnie the Pooh mug).
We are back fully operational, or sort of. Based on the current circumstances, we decided it was in the best interest of our clients that we limit training to 2 people max. The current understanding of increased risk of Covid-19 is primarily airborne and even small group training in most environments is high risk. Limiting the numbers of participants who are excessively exhaling around each other has been deemed the safest way to workout. What other facilities choose to do may be different than NFLF, but we have chosen to limit our participants and maintain ample space and proper air flow. Of course, we also clean all equipment after every session. A clean facility is a safe and happy place!
This past Thursday a gentleman on the plus side of 70 came by for a consultation. His story fit exactly a population that I have adamantly been trying to preventatively awaken!
His circumstances…
Been busy all his life working and believing that the activity of working would keep him healthy and functioning. Now on the plus side of 70, he is struggling with activities that once seemed simple and is unable to do recreational activities he enjoys. For example, he specifically mentioned how he would like to ski, but he fears if he fell, he would not be able to get back up.
The good news…
While I have been trying to reach men and woman long before they get to this stage, science has determined that strength training is highly effective for the older population. Having no experience with strength training tends to limit ones thinking, but thankfully we have tools which can help. TRX is the perfect solution for someone like this gentleman. Using his own body weight and positioning, we can help him progress from zero activity to improved strength safely and effectively.
When he brought up the desire to ski, I told him, first and foremost, we will get him functionally strong to prevent falling, and for sure be able to get up on those occasions he does fall.
Aging surely has its challenges and we must adjust our expectations at times, but if we put some effort into taking care of our health and fitness, we can maintain an active lifestyle long into our later years. It is easier if we think about investing in our fitness sooner than later, but even at 70 something, we can improve our capability.
I am super excited to be able to help this gentleman and I am confident he will be pleased with the quality of life he will gain by improving his fitness and strength.
Whether it be to help people with body composition or improved functioning, we really get pumped by helping people!
Here and There
We create all our own workouts at NFLF and here is one I created for myself and did yesterday. Challenging, but fun!
