Mid Week Coffee and Chat

Good morning. Wow was last night’s NFLR Winter run crazy! We ran the “Reds Shoe Barn Race For a Better Community” 5 mile course and coming down Henry Law with 100 mile per hour winds coming straight at us! I was trying to draft for Meghan but I was afraid I would be blown backward and know her over. With only a couple exceptions this running group has not backed down to this brutal winter and it just goes to show the power of group running. I am so proud of this group and how they mostly showed up each Tuesday night and Saturday morning despite some of the worst conditions. Last night I was in awe of Andrew as he motored around the course with the wind blowing at us most of the time. Definitely a rewarding feeling after as we all stayed after and enjoyed some libations at 7th Settlement Brewery. I would have to say that 7th Settlement has been awesome host to our weekly runs from there and for that reason we will continue to run our future groups from there. Thanks for all the great feedback on the piece I chatted about on Sunday. I most definitely put a lot of time (and drank a lot of coffee) into that and was pleased that many people enjoyed it. This morning is typically Pilates’ for me but I am not feeling my best so I will do the Thursday night class if all goes well. Next week I will be traveling for about 6 days to North Carolina so I am going to have to find a way to get Pilates’ in. My running continues to feel the results of the hip burning exercises that Erica has been putting us through. Most likely I am benefiting beyond just the hips but for me the hips are my problem area so that’s where I notice the greatest improvement. Yesterday’s diet was less than my best. I had breakfast with an old friend and instead of opting out of bread altogether I had a muffin that while very good, probably had my total sugar allowance for the week and that was only part of my breakfast! Dinner at 7th Settlement was no better even after having run 5.5 miles. I am trying to stay away from breads and bad stuff in general so yesterday was not so good. Today we have a potluck at work so we will have to see how that goes. Definitely the aging process doesn’t allow me to get away with eating whatever I want and then burning it off by running or working it out. I am trying to drop around 15 pounds and last week I had gotten that number down to 10 but I am sure it is back closer to 15. I am trying another version of intermittent fasting that I am hoping helps me on multiple fronts where I pick 2 days a week that I don’t eat until 2pm. Started last week and it was not too bad. I have to pick a couple days for this week but it hasn’t been easy with some of the things I have going on. Probably tomorrow and Saturday. I am all about trying things that have been found to help with a healthy life style and intermittent fasting seems to keep coming around to my attention. We shall see. Time to get moving. Hope you have a great day and finish the week strong! God Bless! Mike
