Mothers Day

Happy Mothers day to all you Mothers that are out there! I am blessed to have had a Mother that brought me up to vaule the important things and not worry about things I couldn't control. Her love for walking was something I will always value and I recall many walks we took together and the great talks we shared. I was a very luck child to have had a Mother that taught me about God, being a good person and exercise! My Mom struggles today with pain I wish I could take from her, but she's still important part of my life. This morning my wife Kathleen and I ran the "Mom's On The Run" Dover 5K race. The weather was less than perfect but we enjoyed the event nevertheless! Not our best time, but that wasn't our goal. Instead I pushed her a little bit and we just enjoyed being out there with so many great people. The joy of running is not in our finish time, but instead the pure act of body and spirit. This is a great race for families and I enjoyed seeing many young kids run along with their Mothers (and some Dads). There was a women from the 10K training group that I had talked to earlier about the race and she told me how she would be there with here daughter. The excitement that running with daughter brings is easily seen and heard in her voice. As Kathy and I walked back toward our car, we saw Kate and her daughter running and I could not help but smile. Kate is not your prototypical runner but she is out there for herself and her daughter and nothing else really matters. Go Kate! This weeks feature workout is a strength training workout that will help with the whole runner. Runners can get a little one dimensional and neglect a valuable part of a good training routine. Running alone can deplete our muscle mass so adding some strength training is critical to a well rounded fitness plan. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions! Have a great week! mike
