Good morning…
A week ago, I was sipping coffee in a cabin located in Evergreen Colorado. It was the morning after my oldest child was married to a wonderful young man. My prayers and love will always be with the two of them and their young family. Evergreen Colorado is a beautiful town and I thoroughly enjoyed the few days there. I was blessed to have been able to spend those days with people I love, and I cherished every moment. Life has certainly been challenging (understatement), and it was nice to have a few days of shared love.
Back in New Hampshire and a clean bill of health (tested and cleared), I am eager for the days ahead. Goals are an integral part of my life and help me improve all aspects of my life. Always at the forefront is my faith in God and improving that relationship, as well as seeking goodness through it. After that, my priority is my growth as a person. I have learned so much about how I view others and have come to realize we all see with a different lens. My prospective is a result of my experiences (good and bad), and regardless if I believe it to be right, it does not mean being right is always important. Number three on my priority list is my health, which encompasses both my fitness and diet. While I continue to strive to challenge myself physically, I am extremely pleased with my commitment and follow through with physical activity. However, the diet piece of my health; while it is better than it once was, it is not consistently healthy and has much room for improvement.
A couple of weeks ago I chatted about a challenge that Jen and I discussed and ultimately agreed to take on. Before agreeing to this challenge, we had an in-depth conversation about whether a plant base diet lifestyle would be worth the tradeoff? We both enjoy many foods and treats (ice cream), which are derived from animals, but we were intrigued by the idea of the possible results of a plant based diet. Would the findings of feeling healthier, stronger, vibrant and other positives… trump the elimination of things we enjoy eating?
Bring on the Challenge
I can honestly say, I do not foresee a future of eliminating ice cream or Thanksgiving traditions. However, one of the priorities in my life is to invest in my health; and my diet is a part of that. A plant based diet has shown to be healthier than an animal based, so why not challenge myself to give it a try. Jen and I agreed a 30 day challenge would be a fair way to learn and be more personally attached to the results. Quickly the concept of creating a No Finish Line Fitness Plan Based Diet challenge was contrived! We strategically planned to start after Labor Day (cookouts) and be over by Thanksgiving. Ultimately Jen chose September 7th for two reasons. The first being it is after Labor Day and the second being her daughter’s birthday party is September 6th! Hahaha!
Currently we have 7 or 8 NFLF clients who are excited and going to join the challenge and some other non-clients are interested. Our goal is not to make this a challenge of misery, but more something fun and hopefully beneficial in whatever way each person comes out. Jen has created a off shoot of our NFLF Facebook page, and that page will be used to post recipes, comments, encouragement and even struggles. Check it out and “like” it. https://www.facebook.com/groups/579878912630770 If you want to be added as a member, just let us know. You can also learn more or even join the challenge (no cost), and for info go to https://nofinishlinerunning.com/sept-plant-based-challenge. If you need some background watch Game Changers on Netflix.
I have no idea where this challenge will take me, but I need it! I am trying to empty out my freezer and I also must look at other not so obvious products hanging around. I know me, I need to rid all possible temptations. For now, I have 2 weeks to enjoy ice cream!
Have an amazing week and enjoy these last days of summer!
God Bless!
Mike
