Part II: Efficiency and Prevention
Sunday, April 23, 2017 · Mike Davis
Good morning,
In my last coffee and chat, I talked about “overuse” of our muscles and how we maybe could reverse the effects of how we treat our bodies. Now, I am not a professional in anatomy, but I understand enough to know that we can help ourselves more than we do.
Gait analysis is one of the excellent tools for identifying muscular imbalance or range of motion limitations—and that is surely a great place to start improvement. Functional screening is another great tool that helps to identify those similar deficiencies as well. However, it is far better to identify problems before they become injuries. Too many people wait and do not think about using these tools until they either want to take their running to a greater level, or more likely get injured.
No Finish Line Running has many tools that are all intended to help runners enjoy healthy running. Proper training, running form, strength training, and mental approach to running are all a part of our programs and our coaching. These are all proactive elements. However, we have many people who come to us that need us to be reactive to poor training or injuries. While we certainly can help those that need guidance and coaching after dealing with injuries, we would love to help you before injuries! We want to stay a healthy runner and enjoy running for a long time.
Preventative training means making the effort to improve your functioning before you find out that there is a problem. As a whole, we are not good at this as a society, which is why it is our mission at NFLR to change that.
Hope this encourages you to be more proactive!
God Bless and have a great Sunday!
