Pushing throught the week!
Wednesday, March 11, 2015 · Mike Davis
Good morning, Thankfully it is Wednesday and we are inching our way to the weekend. This morning is Pilates so I can’t dottle. Last night was an outstanding group run for 2 big reasons, one I was able to run in shorts and the other being that we had daylight from beginning to end! Yay!! We ran the “Reds Shoe Barn” course once again and while we have done that a couple times it seemed new to most because they were actually able to see their surroundings. This time of year is most definitely what we long for as we push through challenging winters as we have. I understand that we are not out of the woods just yet but with each passing day we gain more daylight and less snow on the ground. I have been extremely happy with my body as far as my running and I most definitely attribute that to Pilates’. A Little over a year ago I was told by one of the best sport doctors in the country that runners should be doing Pilates’ and I am now finding out how right he was. I have a fair amount of arthritis in each of my hips and while it won’t be going away between Pilates’ and strength training, I have had much less pain. In fact most runs lately have been pain free and that definitely wasn’t the case before Pilates’. While I am feeling pretty good about my body, I am still trying to improve my cardio respiratory system. Whether it is that I am not getting 4 runs in regularly or that I am now 52, I have been struggling with my breathing when I push myself. Most definitely it is difficult to run at a pace that I had previously run and that is very humbling but there are days that even running 9 minute miles take a lot out of me. I really don’t train myself these days because of the involvement with those that I train and our running groups but I still want to improve so I have to get a little more structured with my running. With the improvement in my hips I have given thought to training for a marathon not this year but possibly 2016. If Pilates’ continues to strengthen me as it has I feel confident that my body could hold up to another marathon training. This weekend is kind of the unofficial start of the running season. The Saint Paddies 5 miler is out at the Pease International Tradeport on Sunday, while the “Walk Before You Run”, Pub Crawl kicks off the St. Patrick’s day weekend in Dover. Both races bring a lot of the locals out of hibernation and kicks things off in the running world. There is another race going on in Hampton as the rescheduled “Half at the Hamptons” will take place. That has been a popular mid-winter run for the past few years but moving it to this weekend certainly bites into the other races I mentioned. I hope you are running in one of them. Pretty crazy to think that Boston is not much more than a month away. This winter must have been one of the worst to have train. In fact the coming weekend forecast calls for the possibility of 3 to 6 inches of snow. Oh joy! Time to get over to the center for Pilates’. I would very much like to climb back in bed and sleep for another 3 hours but that’s not happening. Enjoy your day and finish your week strong. Thanks for sitting down to coffee with me. God Bless Mike Post Pilates' Just finished with Pilates' and I have to share some honesty with you. I had zero desire this morning to do Pilates' and if I weren't the owner of the business I probably would have stayed in and kept drinking coffee. However Pilates' absolutely kicked my butt and I feel amazing! Truly my day will be better because I got there and challenged myself to get better! Please try Pilates' if you haven't. Be well my friends.
