Good morning! As we move this week no one is probably more grateful than myself! This week we wind up the Runners Alley 10K training group with the Saunders 10K on Thursday while we move through week 2 of the Runners Alley Half Marathon training group. Definitely a busy time, but also lots of fun! It is always bittersweet when a training group ends; the bitter part is that I will miss seeing some great people regularly and the sweet part being that my schedule becomes a little more manageable. I am really excited about Thursday nights Saunders 10K as I believe this training group is strong and ready for sure. Every single runners has pushed themselves to improve and I have witnessed the improvements from day one. In fact many of this particular group have run some 5Ks recently and everyone of them have been excited about knocking of significant time and hitting PRs. While that is very exciting and I hope that everyone hits a PR on Thursday, I really only hope for stronger runners and that's not always measured by a particular time. Stronger means a whole lot more as far as a coaches standpoint, being stronger means healthy and running confidently. This group has been showing those signs over the past couple of weeks and nothing could please me more. Runners definitely get hung up on time way to much and I am certainly no different, but time is not always a good measurement of a strong runner and I will certainly take strong over fast. Personally I feel like I am getting in running shape all over again. Not sure if my back and calf injury took away my running conditioning, but I certainly feel like I am back training my legs and lungs again. I actually hope that this is the case as it would explain my struggles over the past few weeks. Everything has felt sore and running over 3 miles has been a challenge. This week I have run 5.5 and 4.5 and I feel like I am working my way back into running shape, but it has been some time since I felt out of running shape. Some would say it is part of getting older, but I am not buying that all of the sudden my conditioning left me because of my advancing age. I have an appointment with my doctor today and will talk about it with her and I am thankful that she is a triathlete as it will be easier to talk with her. Like I said earlier, maybe I did lose my conditioning when I was sporadic with my running during the couple injuries. Well, time to move along. Hope you have a great Wednesday! Good luck to all those that are running the Saunders 10K on Thursday! Mike
