Quick thoughts on the running conditions

Happy Wednesday! Okay I stayed inside all day yesterday though every once and a while I looked out the window at my truck and marveled at how little snow was on it. This morning I actually went outside to warm my truck up and I found where most of the snow was! The drifts outside my front door were nearly as tall as me! My morning plans of jumping in my truck and going to the center to work out were quickly dashed and my morning workout would now be shoveling! Guess that is the price I pay for staying in my PJ’s yesterday. Not to poor salt on the wounds but the current forecast looks to dump more photo worthy stuff on us this weekend and a lot more early next week! Yay! Running outside has just gotten a heck of a lot harder if not impossible for the time being. Besides the having safe footing, the only place you can run right now is on the roads and I strongly advocate for not doing that. With high snow banks visibility is non-existent and couple that with the fact that vehicles may not have the best traction; us as runners have a greater level of risk. I can be as adventurous as the next person, but there is a point when the risk is obvious and not smart to take. I hear all the time about the hatred for treadmills, but if you are determined to run, deal with the treadmill or go snowshoeing or cross country skiing. Treadmills are great tools for various workouts and in fact we are designing individual workouts at “the center” for folks to come in and enjoy. Soon you will be able to pop in and grab a particular workout and just follow the directions. Make the treadmill work for you when you have no safe alternatives. Cross training is always a good thing, so as I said if you cross country ski or snowshoe this is certainly the time to change up your cardio. I understand running is the best choice logistically but not when it isn’t safe. Be wise! Time to go finish my cross training (shoveling). Have a safe day and enjoy something warm! God Bless! Mike
