Race Season Coming Soon!
Wednesday, February 03, 2016 · Mike Davis
Good morning! Grab you coffee and pull up a chair. For some reason my energy level has been lacking lately but, thankfully this morning I got myself up early enough to sip a cup of coffee and get my strength training in. So this cup of coffee with you will be quick! The 3rd of February and the racing season is just around the corner. “Red Hook Runners Alley 5K” is open for registration (register now!), “Reds Shoe Barn Race for A Better Community” 5 miler is open as well and the list goes on and on. “NFLR” will have a few runners at “Reds” and then no doubt many at various other races around the Seacoast. This year will mark the end of an error for me at “Red Hook” as a volunteer as I will be up at the Vermont City marathon as either a runner or a supporter. Right now my hip tells me I will not be there as a runner but, that is still yet to be determined. I will truly miss not being at Red Hook as a volunteer as I really enjoyed being out on the course cheering on the runners. Another mark of spring being right around the corner (I didn’t hear the results of the groundhog so I don’t know about that) is that the Grand Daddy of all marathons is fast approaching. Early April will bring runners for to Boston for the marathon and this year “No Finish Line Running” will have 3 runners running this prestigious event. I am really excited for all 3 as they are working extremely hard while totally embracing the NFLR training philosophy at the same time. NFLR at the core is about developing a joy for running that will help individuals sustain running for life. This philosophy doesn’t value race finishes over running joy or even at the expense of. However, we focus on developing healthy, strong and technically sound runners while maintaining an enjoyment that is at the core. We challenge our runners in an intelligent way that helps them not only get stronger but, also develops their confidence in their running. For us the level of the runner is not as important as the concept of using “intelligent training” to help every runner get stronger while maintaining a level of enjoyment that will sustain them for life. Two of the three runners at Boston this April have definitive goals that are extremely challenging and using our NFLR training model they both are definitely stronger than they were at the time they came to us. The results come April will be out of our hands and to some extent theirs but, they certainly will go into Boston strong, healthy and ready. Should be fun for all three! Time to get my strength training done! Have a great day. God Bless! Mike
