Relief!

Tonight after a long day of being on the road and sitting through a long Video Teleconference, I got home in a less than perfect mood. I have not run since Sunday and that alone has added a stressor to an already busy week. Between coaching commitments, work and other life requirements, running has been impossible. This coming from the guy that makes training plan schedules that fit just about any life style! To be honest I have also been dealing with a problematic hip that has not been at its best as of late so that may have contributed to my lack of running as well. Anyhow, as I changed out of my uniform at the base I decided to put on running clothes so that when I got home I would "feel" ready to go running. A while back I wrote about just putting on your shoes even if you weren't motivated to run, so I took my own advice. After I got home and got situated, I grabbed my Iphone, Garmin and put on my heart rate strap and hit the road. My first couple of miles were quite slow, but I was feeling pretty good so I picked it up some. As I approached a major intersection I saw two ladies waiting for the walk sign so I stopped and waited with them. After the light changed green multiple times, I asked if they had actually pressed the walk button and they laughed, but pressed it again. Finally after what seemed like 5 minutes, but was probably 3, the walk sign lit up and I was on my way. The evening was perfect for running, a little drizzle but cool and not much humidity. My hip felt great so I added some Fartlek's around mile 4 and then ran an easy final mile to give me 6. Great run, lots of fun and a huge relief! Relief is one of the reasons I run and that's a huge blessing for me. Like many of you, life can have its challenges and while I am a pretty even keel person, I still need an outlet and running provides just that. Being tied to a desk or stuck in a car for a good part of a day is getting less desirable and running becomes all that much more important. Tonight's run was perfect and I am glad I put on my running gear before I left for home! Be well!
